Personal Essay: Minecraft's Influence On My Education

I have always loved games. From the simplest game played in the woods as a kid to massive online games, games have grabbed my attention, but no game has ever engrossed me as much as Minecraft. Minecraft has been a part of my life since 2011. As a high school freshman I was immediately fascinated by the open world game style and encouraged my friends to try the game as well. I started out solo on a single player survival map. I wandered aimlessly through the forests of the world overwhelmed by the scale and beauty of the game marking my path with large dirt towers to avoid getting lost. Updates were released and I kept on playing. My friends and I created several servers on which we created entire civilizations. I am now a junior in college and twenty years old and still playing the game. My friends have long since stopped but my love for the game has been reborn with my twelve year old brother and we play together whenever we get the chance, taking on hunger games style servers and building our own adventure maps. I have played minecraft during the last six years of my education. Minecraft has positively influenced my education in three ways; the
Some of my fondest memories with my friends was on the game running over hills exploring or killing the ender dragon with chicken eggs. The game has assisted me in developing the skills I use everyday in my academic life. A sense of adventure found in caving is taking risks is necessary to create more opportunities. Critical thinking and problem solving I use every day to solve problems in my data science and math classes. Minecraft is great for creativity. My ability to take an empty barren hill topped with snow and transform it into a castle that towers over the world with colorful banners flying over the walls will stick with me for the rest of my life. I love the game of Minecraft and will continue to play the game every chance I
