Personal Narrative: A Career As A Medical Assistant
When I graduated from high school, I did not want to go to school. I wanted to have a job. So my uncle took me to ROP school to find if there were any occupations that I wanted to do. There were a lot of classes that looked really interest to me, but one of the classes looked really fun. It was Medical Back Office Assistants.
So I chose Medical as my goal, but first I had to take Medical terminology class before I went to Medical Assistants class. The class was about language describe the human body. In medical class I must learn the difference between suffixes and prefixes. On my first day of class, I was really nervous because I never studied anything like this before. I thought about myself that I might fail this class. Because all of the
words were very difficult to remember and memorize. After the first day of class my teacher gave me a lot of words to study. All of the terms looked very new to me because I never saw those words before. So I went home and wrote down all the words and definitions on a small flashcard to study.
All the terms in medical were hard to study and memorize. It took me a lot of days to memorize all the words for one chapter. When I took the class I thought all the words were the same in my Biology book that I studied in high school. But all the words looked very different. After nine weeks of hard study day and night the class ends. I was very happy for myself because I passed the class with an A on the final test for my first class. Also when I passed the final I received my first certificate for that class.
After I took medical terminology class, I had to take another medical class. This class was about called Medical Back Office Assistant 1. This class was about how to take care of patients when they visit doctors’ office. If I want to work at doctor office I must know how to do the patients weight, height, their vital signs, and give them a shot when they are sick. That was what this class was about. In this class I was nervous and scared because I had to know how to define the difference between the size of the needles gauges, and medications. My teacher also showed me how to treat patients when they had an injury on their body. Finally, the nine week of class ended, and I was receiving another certificate. Now I can go to any doctor office and ask for a job.
I never thought about myself entering in the Medical field in my life because I was very lazy. I did not want to do anything and I just wanted to stay home. But I was really proud of myself because now I know what I want to do for my future. Even though medical field was new to me, so I will try hard and become a best person to take care of people who need help. My parents were very proud of me and they were happy that now I had to chosen my career to work on.
