Do I consider myself a writer? Yes. Do I consider myself a good writer? maybe. There are many instances in life when we as international college students, think we are not capable of doing certain things. For me writing was one of them, until I decided to become a filmmaker. Many people might think filmmakers just need a camera and lights to make a movie. However, writing is one of the most important parts of filmmaking--surprised?

The first step of the filmmaking process is writing a script, which can take months, if not years to complete. If the script is not good, it is guaranteed that the movie will not be good. The job of a producer is not easy, there are many logistics, finances and decisions to be made. A few months back, I worked with a team of producers for a short film. We had to take a decision on whether to work with a small crew or to find funds to cover the cost of transportation, food, actors, etc. All the students working on this project, did want to find other solutions because “it was going to be hard to find the funds.”I decided to work on my own and start a kickstarter campaign and write letters to different companies and people to ask for donations. This was an example of how I used critical thinking and decision making in order to solve this situation. At the end we were able to cover the cost of the production and everything we …show more content…
As a started my journey through college, I saw myself having a disadvantage because I was from another country. Everything seemed hard and I had to work ten times harder than other students. Now, I see that being from another country gives me another perspective on how I approach different situations. I can take advantage of my own experiences such as, adapting to a new culture, and write interesting and powerful pieces of writing. Being from another country is not a disadvantage, it is an advantage.

As I move on through college and into a professional career in film, I will take advantage of my own cultural differences, experiences, and achieve my goals. As I move closer to my goal, I can now say that being persistent has helped me overcome the challenges of being an international student. Now I know that I can be more confident when writing a film related project and other piece of

The Coen brothers can be considered an example of what not to do when first starting out as a writer and director in the film industry. From the beginning, they did not try to get a big name producer, go for big name actors, or write movies they knew would be hits. Instead, they raised money from the citizens of their hometown to make their first film Blood Simple, which starred pretty much no-name actors and actresses in an absurd plot. However, this put their name on the map, and it was because of that movie that we have masterpieces today like Fargo. They use their own techniques that, if tried by any other director, would seem forced, but when put to fruition by the Coens create a film that captivates many.…

I have been writing for a few years, I started writing stories in the sixth grade. It was my way of escaping reality. I love to write stories about fantasy worlds and life experiences. Asking me to describe myself as alone is a hard question, but asking me to describe myself as a writer is harder one. I am a beginner writer, who has talent but still has improvement to make in every which way. I am very hard on myself when it comes to writing, and every time I write I believe it's horrible. Other's say different. As for a few of my friends say that I write what I feel and my feeling can take several pages. I like to write and I write…

It was not until, the end of my Sophomore year when I joined Sallisaw Youth Coalition(SYC), that I realized that this small town has plenty to offer its citizens. It may not offer malls or luxurious restaurants but it offers all that it can manage for its residents. From the moment I affiliated with SYC, I became involved with activities in my community that I didn't even know existed. The more active I became with SYC the more my perception of the town changed. I began to see the town as a supportive friendly environment. If I accomplished anything from growing up in a small town it's learning that you truly can't judge a book by its' cover. This town may appear horrible and hopeless but the heart of this town is its warm generous people who care to improve it. Many of the warm generous people are the teachers that want to witness their students succeed in life. I dedicate my academic success to my wonderful instructors. My exceptional teachers taught me that if you apply yourself to the difficulties at hand you will develop skills that will advance your knowledge in the future. This advice is kept close to my heart and serves as a support when tasks seem challenging. My ambitions for becoming a script/screenwriter are usually diminished or frowned upon…

I have always had struggles and difficulties when it comes to writing. This is due to the fact that English is not my first language, and that I am still learning. I started to learn how to speak, and listen, and mainly write in English when I was in ninth grade. Writing has been the hardest to deal with it, because I have many spelling and mechanical errors and most importantly, how to organize an essay, but this changed when I took English 49 with Professor Lucero. In my first day of class, I was assigned to write an essay about my experience with writing. I was not completely sure on how to start my essay and how to organize it. When I was in High School, I did not write many essays, and the few I did, I have endless help. So, I just my…

Two organizations in particular made a lasting impression on me, one of which is the PSUTV Network. Coming to a big school like Penn state as a intended film major with little experience, I found the PSUTV Network to be an opportunity to expand myself, getting that much closer to my degree. The TV network strives to provide a new, hands-on experience for beginners right from the start. For that reason, I knew right away that this club would be a great start to my new journey here at Penn State. In time, this club will provide an entire foundation that I can use as a stepping-stone into the world to help me achieve my greatest goals of being a producer.…

As a humans we all have to experience certain situations in life, in order to figure out what we like and dislike. I can honestly say I’ve had my fair share of situations. I started working at Samsung call center as a full time employee. The job had excellent benefits, and room for growth and advancement. While I was working there I thought it was what I wanted, but as time progressed I realized it may not be for me. I had been out of school for 2 years when I accepted this job, so I wasn’t quite sure as to what career path I wanted to take. My decision at the time was to work full time and remain productive with that. Sometime you have to make a few changes within in yourself in order to grow as a person. Just because a certain job makes a decent amount of money doesn’t necessarily mean it is suitable for you.…
