Every time I was asked ‘What do you want to be when you grow up’ I always said i wanted to be a marine biologist, one because I love the ocean and it was the first job I could find that had to do with the ocean and two, the profession of marine biology sounds very prestigious. Although in reality I never really looked into marine biology or even seriously considered what I wanted to be when I grow up.

I never really had an answer when grown-ups asked me what I wanted to be when I was little. Did I want to be a Veterinarian? Maybe, animals are awesome. Teacher? I’d rather just learn. Astronaut? Only if they make space food tastier. Now I’m about to be one of many so-called “grown-ups” and I finally have the answer. I want to help people. I will help people. I am going to be a social worker.…

The autonomic nervous system is divided into two sub-sections called the sympathetic nervous system and the parasympathetic nervous system. The sympathetic nervous system is the actual system that releases energy and prepares the body for action. The body then typically restores itself back to normal after a period of time by the parasympathetic nervous system, which acts as a kind of stabilizer (Sanes DH, Reh TA, Harris WA (2006). Development of the nervous system)”.…

As I stood on the board, I imagined myself soaring through the air, picturing every move I made until sliding into the water as perfectly as possible. I competed as a Springboard Diver for six years. Diving helped me discover and further explore the nature behind what motivates me and keeps me mental strong and capable, which is now an immense aspect of who I am. Although I am no longer a Springboard Diver, it still influences aspects of my everyday life. Diving is unique in how it is more mentally taxing than it is physically.…

Despite non-selection, my pursuit of this prestigious and challenging position will not be deterred. My naval career, I have continually sought positions of greater responsibility and produced exceptional results in each of those positions. While I take great pride in being a Chief Petty Officer, I feel the experience I have acquired as a Chief will benefit any wardroom I am a member of. It is important to note that I did not submit an LDO-CWO package for FY-14 due to the time constraints I experienced while standing up Naval Beach Unit SEVEN with an under staffed office and operational commitment.…

I have learned that long-term career / professional goals are best achieved when we break them into shorter goals. As part of a team, I want to add value and continue to grow the company. My long term goals is to leave legacy and be the asset of that…

There is a fire that ignites within me when I talk about my aspirations in life. A fire that burns so brightly that it can not only be seen physically in the way my hazel eyes light up, but felt radiating from my soul through the conversations that others have with me. Even when I was younger this fire always burned within me to better the world and aid those suffering in it. For some of my friends this same fire manifested into them becoming doctors, for me however it manifested into becoming a marine mammal veterinarian.…

I have a deep interest in the ocean and marine life, which was fostered when my family and I moved to the Pacific Coast. This interest grew further after I went on a backstage tour to the aquarium at the Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo. Due to this continuous exposure to the ocean and the creatures that live there, I am focusing my education around my interest in marine life. It's for this reason that I’m majoring in Marine Biology with a minor in Chemistry. With this education, my goal is to become an Aquarist, and build my way up to becoming an ocean or aquarium diver. As a diver, I want to have the opportunity to study coral reefs, and create and implement conservation plans. In addition, I want to study sea turtles and ways to conserve their declining…

My father always told me that nothing worth having comes easy. I carry these words close to my heart and they have driven me to challenge myself through life, especially in my STEM career. My major in the science field has been similar to riding a roller-coaster, but I have learned to overcome most of the obstacles I have faced along the way. No matter what situation brought me down, I remained positive and tried to think of solutions rather than giving up. Finally, in the last few months, many of my peers would mention that I am the type of person who is able to withstand obstacles and recover quickly.…

Before this shadowing experience, I knew that pursuing a career in medicine is something that I was interested in, but I never had a real experience to examine a typical doctor's life. After the first week of shadowing, I started getting a sense of what it is to be a doctor. Becoming a doctor is not something easy. Every time I went to the office, there was a big list of patients that doctor Eloy had to meet. He had to be careful about the way he acts and the way he talks with patients, nurses, and other doctor. Even though it seemed so hard at the beginning, I enjoyed this experience and I learned a lot from it. I learned that being a doctor requires more than going to medical school. Medical school is just the first step. I learned that a…

Inside our brain, there is this system called the human nervous system. There are two types of nervous systems: the peripheral and central nervous systems. The peripheral nervous system includes the nerves connecting the central nervous system to the rest of the body. It has two subdivisions: somatic nervous system and autonomic nervous system. Somatic nervous system controls skeletal muscles and interacts with the external environment. An example is walking through a park. You are using your motor nerves, which relay messages from the central nervous system, to all the skeletal muscles of your body. The autonomic nervous system regulates the body’s internal environment, which consists of organs, glands, and blood vessels. An example is breathing.…

As a humans we all have to experience certain situations in life, in order to figure out what we like and dislike. I can honestly say I’ve had my fair share of situations. I started working at Samsung call center as a full time employee. The job had excellent benefits, and room for growth and advancement. While I was working there I thought it was what I wanted, but as time progressed I realized it may not be for me. I had been out of school for 2 years when I accepted this job, so I wasn’t quite sure as to what career path I wanted to take. My decision at the time was to work full time and remain productive with that. Sometime you have to make a few changes within in yourself in order to grow as a person. Just because a certain job makes a decent amount of money doesn’t necessarily mean it is suitable for you.…
