Standing at the white-railed fence that surrounds Stella’s stall I recognizing all the marks on the inside of the shelter and they bring back so many memories. Memories come flooding back, some good and some I wish I could just forget. January 13th, 2015, feels as if it was yesterday. It was the day I lost one of my best friends and a day I wish never happened. It all began as I was walking back to school with my friends from Walgreens, I got a call from my dad telling me “You need to run home and get your Carhartt and some gloves and a hat because Prince is sick and you might be out here for a while. Also, call you mom and see if she needs anything from the house to stay warm for tonight."
I replied, "Is he okay? What is wrong and how bad is he?"
"I will talk to you when you get here and catch you up on everything but go get the things

As I drove through the large wooden arch I got a gut feeling it wasn't going to be. After passing all the stalls I found my dad’s truck and in the round pen to the left of the road was Prince standing there all droopy and not feeling well. He was covered in mud that he was thrashing around in earlier in the morning when it all began. My dad slowly approached my car as I pulled to the side to park. After I had got out of my car he began to tell me what had happened, "Chris was feeding this morning and threw a little handful to each of my horses to keep them occupied while he started from the barn of the barn but while he was feeding the last row he heard extremely loud noises. He hurried up and drove his hay truck to find where the noise was coming from and saw Prince covered in mud. He looked to see if he had touched the hay but he didn't. Instead, there was a large hole located at the beginning of his shed where he was rolling. Chris called me and I rushed down to the

With the barrel of her musket propped firmly on the limb of a tree, Charity took steady aim at the deer. The medium-sized buck was grazing at the edge of a thicket of wax myrtles, near where she saw the deer tracks the day before. John and Uriah were squatting in the bushes behind her. She had brought them along to help with the bleeding out of the deer, should she kill one, and to help carry it back to camp. They could then dress it out and help her prepare the meat for making jerky and so forth. She also hoped to can some of the meat so that it would last a lot longer. She was glad that Nancy had shown her how and taught her how to preserve food in glass jars- it was much better than having to dry it all into tough leather strips… Taking careful aim, Charity squeezed the trigger, while saying a quick prayer that the bullet would hit its mark. She was worried that she wasn't close enough to the deer, but if she had tried to get any closer, it would have seen her and ran off into the woods.…

That was the day that my grandpa passed away. Every single part of that date is engrained in my memory. My parents had driven up to Wisconsin, and my older sister Lauren drove home for college to stay with me. It wasn’t out of the normal for my parents to quickly leave, so I didn’t think much of it. I remember going to hang out with Tatum, my best friend of the time. It was a nice day outside, so of course we were outside playing on the trampoline and doing all our weird routines like we always did. Her family, who was like a second family to me, decided to go out to eat so they brought me along. We went to La Charitas. I remember how Mrs. Teeple pulled out a funny card game for us to play, and I remember Tatum cutting out faces in her tortilla, making us all laugh. When we got back to the house we saw that my sister called, so I said bye to the Teeples and walked one minute down the road to my house. Lauren, who is one of the most emotional in the family, was left with the task of telling me that my grandpa had passed away. I had just grabbed a snack of chocolate cheerios as she started to tell me the news. I didn’t know how to react, so I ran into the basement directly to the furthest corner I could find. Lauren tried talking to me, but I wanted to be by myself. One of the hardest things I have ever done was talking to my dad on the phone after finding out. He called to tell me the plans, that he was coming home to get us, and…

of Marlos, Spain. The story that I am about to tell you is one that I truly wish I could forget, as if it never happened to me. I relive the terror of it in my dreams every night. I was traveling through the wilderness on a trail on the foggy and stormy evening of October the 13th, 1867. My horse, Miles, trampled fiercely through the rushing wind and rain that soaked both my hat and my fur coats. The brown in them both became much darker due to the absorbing of moisture. Drips of water rushed down my chilled face as Miles ran and the lighting struck with a loud rumble of thunder following. I had not eaten in nearly two days due to the long ride. I felt fatigue and hunger coursing through my stomach and my arms and legs, almost as if I could…

The day seems like a giant blur to me. I remember my friends and I were playing outside and the day was reaching an end. For me, it was the end of 1st grade. My sister went back to our house on her scooter to get something. For her it was the end of 2nd grade. She was going pretty fast and the next thing I see is her scooter flipping over a crack and her landing face-first on the hard cement sidewalk. I thought it looked pretty painful, so I rushed over to see what kind of condition she was in. Before I could get to her, she rushed into our house sobbing.…
