I was scheduled to give a 45-minute speech I had spent months working on – taking an 8-hour course down to a 45-minute review was tough enough, but when I arrived, I asked the program coordinators where the educational programs were to be held – her response was, what educational programs? She finally let us have some of the tables that were set for the luncheon – the entire time the caterers were setting up the luncheon, talking and crashing dishes……
Today at work we were taught to cut fruit. By me working in the Deli I would have never thought that I would be able to have such experience. Here at Rouses we work as a team all departments. There was this big order produce had coming up and at the time there were very little people clocking hours in the produce department. Our store managers were working on hiring some people to work behind this department but at the time there was no one to fit what they were looking for. With this being my externship my managers and head chef thought it would be a perfect idea to help out with this huge order produce had. I had fun with this experience learning to cute fruit in all different shapes and objects. It was like we were making the fruit come…

Definitely, my most memorable shadowing experience. Although the 12-hour shift was at night, the ongoings on the Trauma Center keeps everyone on their toes. Nurses, radiologists, surgeons, even policemen all worked together on various cases. The most severe of the night was of a young man whose femur broke in half after being knocked by a vehicle while running away with a stolen bike. Having being present while the orthopedist straightened his leg with only local anesthesia was definitely an impressive moment. My first gunshot wound was seen and I observed a surgery where a large pus-filled abscess had to be cleaned from a diabetic patient. The dreaded fear of burnt flesh was…

Certainly, having grown up in a culture that there process of discipline and training in the most family was by flogging whip, palm fronds spank, spank with a tree switch, beating with a bamboo stick, backs slap, slapping butt, face slapping, punching or twisting ears, and hands beating. In the same way, all these beaten are not seen as an element of abuse by virtue of the pain it gives the individual. It is a measure of tutoring a child showing the gravity of his or her action was not acceptable to the family, kindred, and community. Having seen these corporal punishments, my career as a social worker will advocate for a positive change in child parenting.…
During my semester in Nature of the Learner I was placed in a second grade classroom at Johnson Street Elementary. This was a global studies school. I was very hesitant on my first day of going into the school. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect but I was excited to be in the classroom because second grade was my favorite age group to work with. During this placement I assumed that I would help out the kids within the class but I didn’t. My teacher had me help out this one little guy every week. I was able to help him with his writing and math. I enjoyed doing that but that left me with about five minutes in the actual classroom to observe. During this short amount of time I would walk around the room and ask the children if they needed help.…
In my life, in your life, we are going to come up upon to a thought situations. When I faced my first thought situation, I was not quite sure how to react. I was not quite sure how to handle it or help. “My son was chocking with a hotdog” it was the scariest day of my life. Hotdogs are one-off the most dangerous foods for children to eat. Since then, my life changed and I realized how important is to know CPR guidelines to help someone when help is need it.…
I just moved to a kid infested neighborhood. I was 18 so I had no interest in going outside and playing with the 12-14 year old kids. I thought it would be okay moving there, but they're so annoying, doing there kid stuff and writing skate boards which I've done myself and probably annoyed many people so I didn't tell them anything. Anyway my mom lives with me because step dad recently died. This house had been so weird, I don't know if it's me or like I said, the house. There's always weird noises and the weirdest part is that there is this rug that always appears in different places when I get home. My mom doesn't say anything about it because she has bad memory loss and always loses things. Someone needed to do something about this house or rug because i'm starting to get scared and lose it.…

As the single child in a family with working parents, I spent the most time of my childhood living and hanging around with my dog. This experience might be one of the reasons that I am very compassionate to animals and sensitive to people’s needs. My voluntary work is in a welfare house called Alenah's home. I love working there because I like seeing the smile face of the children there – even some autism babies don’t smile facially, I believe they can feel the love when being caressed softly.…
It’s a Friday,” says my mom. She asked me to go to with her to work this Friday to help out with the staff after school. I roll my eyes, annoyed by even the idea of going to that old boring mental institution. I sigh. I don't have a choice when it comes to me and my mother. “It sounds like so much fun,” I say sarcastically. “Sarah, you’ll be fine,” replys my mom. I ignore her and go to school.…
Growing up I had two loving parents, they always wanted the best possible for me. School was always challenging for me. I never liked it, and I never had a good work ethic. It started when I was young, my parents never made me do chores, and they always rewarded me for minimal efforts of work, and it did not help me in the long run. I had a very easy life growing up, but being spoiled does not help when you become an adult. It’s very hard to just gain a work ethic, it takes a lot of time and effort.…
I did not become addicted to alcohol or drugs, instead, I became addicted to escaping from reality. Born in Michoacan, Mexico I experienced the reality of feeling unsafe and unprotected, sleeping with an eye open just to see if I was the only one in my room. In a country where kidnapping and killing were the solutions to keeping a mouth shut from speaking the truth. Murder victims’ tortured bodies frequently appeared on roadsides without an explanation. I lived in a country where a good education, values, and respect are hard to find, but instead you find drugs, violence, and corruption right at your door. The parents of my young generation were trying to keep their kids away from those who didn’t believe in the possibility of changing tomorrow.…
