What could I say to that fat man? the one with the white beard then suddenly the words would just come and before you know it
Christmas would come riding in when I saw the dolly the one I wanted
I always knew that the man in the red hat would always be a friend to me

Tobolowsky’s article echoes thoughts and feelings about Santa, fears about life, and general doubts that are common to almost every child at some point in his or her life. Stephen describes childhood events and his own propensity toward fear and doubt in a frank and humorous manner that reminds me of Ralphie’s narration in A Christmas Story. Underneath the humor, however, there exists the real torment of doubt and fear that Stephen experiences, fear of the dark, fear of strange noises at night, fear of monsters living in his bedroom. While these fears simply frustrate his well-intentioned parents, they drive Stephen to create remedies of his own to allay his fears. However,…

Certainly, many believe the Grinch’s heart is identical to mine, and when it comes to Christmas, we share uniform emotions. However, the Grinch and I have unalike reasons for despising the season. As told in “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”, no one truly knows why the Grinch hates the entire Christmas season, but my friends know my reasons for hating the season. Sometimes it’s the stress of gifting, the unbearable runny noses, or occasionally the useless gifts I try my hardest to be thankful for. I’m an exceedingly different individual compared to my friends and family, but I am fond of my unique personality.…

It was a perfectly normal Saturday night, until I sat on the couch. I expected to enjoy a funny movie with my dad, but instead I got a trip to the hospital. I sat on the couch, and then I felt a sting in my elbow. At first, it felt like I got a shot at the doctor, but it slowly got worse, and felt more like a knife slicing into my elbow. I winced and sprung up from the couch. I squinted and my eyes scanned the spot where I just sat down. Aha, I thought. There was a small piece of plastic, and it looked like it broke off from a container.…
