As an aspiring environmental biology major, I am intrigued by the course offerings, including Global Change Biology and Conservation Biology. Over the course of my life, I have dedicated countless hours to helping others. My grandmother ran a Habitat for Humanity restore (secondhand shop) in South Carolina, so every time I visited her, we spent the entire time unloading donations, working the cash register, talking to prospective homeowners, and delivering lunch to workers on the jobsites. I loved every minute of it. My grandmother retired last year, so I haven’t been back to the store recently, and I miss the opportunity to contribute. I am excited by Tulane’s strong relationship with Habitat, particularly in the rebuilding of New Orleans in the aftermath Hurricane Katrina. If I am fortunate enough to attend Tulane, I will most definitely volunteer with Habitat for Humanity and find additional opportunities for community work.
Current students tell me there is always something going on campus from the Biology Enthusiast's Association of Students to Tulane University Video Game Society. It seems the same can be said for the city. During my three day stay in New Orleans, I heard music on every corner, went to art galleries, and ate at amazing restaurants. If I am lucky enough to live in New Orleans for four years, I could be both culturally and academically enriched.
