Personal Narrative: My First Football Experience
My first football season By: Dylan Jackson Today was the day to pick up my football equipment. I could not hold in my excitement, it was a Saturday and my first practice was on a Tuesday. I was outside chucking the ball in the air and catching it when my mom came out. “It’s time to go,” she said “OK” I exclaimed as I dropped the football and sprinted to the van. When my mom and I arrived I tried on my gear and left to sign up, the guy at the signup place signed me up he gave me a football and a New Ulm area youth football shirt. “See you at practice,” he yelled as we were heading to our van. Three days later was my first practice, it began at 5:30 P.M. Around 4:15 my dad started making Mashed potatoes and meatballs with Cream of Chicken soup. I …show more content…
When I jumped out of the van and was walking to the field I saw Nathan Allen was on the opponent's team the Broncos. The very first play was on the offence, Tommy sprinted to the end zone for a 79 yard touchdown. I thought “am I supposed to do that”, Sadly we lost 14 to 21 but I was glad Nathan won his first game. The rest of the month went in a blur and the next thing I knew it was our final game, the teams standing was 2-3. The only team we haven’t beat were the undefeated Steelers. Before the game I headed to the clinic to see if I broke my finger from Thursday's practice. When I left the X-ray room (I didn’t break my finger, just jammed it bad) I saw Nathan who was holding his wrist funny. I said hi and then headed to the game. We won, I can’t believe we beat the undefeated Steelers! I had to turn in my gear and after that that my mom, sisters and I went to get ice cream at Mcdonalds. I drank my vanilla shake and thought in my head. “I learned a lot about football and teamwork.” I was disappointed that football ended but I knew that wasn’t the last time I would be on the field. I hope I get picked next

I got on the bus looking for a seat I sat in the back with my friend Dillon who was practically the best kid on the team. Dillon said “you think we’re going to win today”. When the quarterback went up behind the center and said his cadence I felt my stomach tighten up and get really nervous until we both took our steps and I got my hands on the ball. I saw the line gave me a big hole to work with and knew it was on the secondary I had to beat, with one cutback and a broken tackle I scored on the first play of the scrimmage.…

I knew something was serious and my parents came and drove me to the hospital. At the hospital they told me my appendix was about to burst and I would have to have emergency surgery. For the next 6 weeks I was mandated to sit out as I watched my senior season slip through my fingertips. I sat at home for the first week and reflected on how my attitude should be when I come back. I came to the conclusion I was still the leader of the team and even if I wasn’t able to play, I could still lead the team and show my commitment through continuous support. It was not easy. Watching your whole school cheer on everyone else, knowing you are the game changer sitting on the sideline because of a fluke body reaction. Through all of this I learned to fight through hard times and be positive and work hard because when I was able to return, I was more than ready. In the final game I played and my first game back, I rushed for 197 yards, two touchdowns, and led the defense in tackles. I can truly say I have never been more proud of myself and not only was it because I worked hard to recover from my injury, but because I showed my teammates that I would not give up and I would stick by them and do everything possible. It was a bittersweet feeling to leave the field for my last high school football game, but it was definitely more sweet than…

In the first five minutes, I allowed them to score. That made the score 35-34 with a huge field goal attempt up next. As a team we were tired, bruised, and even hurt, but we never gave up. We blocked the field goal to win the football game 35-34. The closest football game in South Dakota football history. After the game we were all over-joyed, everyone smiled, many laughed, and some were moved to tears.…

I was very excited and happy that all of my hard work in the batting cages and at practice was finally starting to pay off. I knew that I had to remain humble and keep working hard to be successful. My parents have molded me into the person I am today and I knew that I couldn't use this spotlight as an excuse to quit working hard. Our goal as a team was to make it to the state tournament. We ended up losing in the first round of sub-state. Losses and moments like that leave you with a feeling that you never want to feel again. I was determined to work hard to never get that feeling again and I am very excited for what is still to…

It was the fourth quarter of thee first freshman game of the season and we were down by eight. One moment they were all playing next moment there was a player down. One of the hardest things is putting relationships after jobs. I choked on this for a little while, I got over it. Running out on to the field, I felt a breeze as I reached the injured player. I should have been prepared for what was about to happen. We would have done the same, if we were in their position. With just a little over nine minutes' left to play in the third quarter. Carbon had the ball on their own 36-yard line, 3rd down and 8 yards to go for the first down. I was lined up in the middle linebacker spot. The defensive scheme was a 3-4 defense; we were expecting a pass play, so we could play a short zone.…

Football has always been a big part of my life. As a young boy I would day dream of making insane touchdowns, making tackles that would leave man stuck in the ground, and even winning the heisman trophy. In 7th grade I had begged my mother endlessly to sign me up for pee wee football because she would always worry about the risks of football. After finally getting her to sign me up, we went straight into the season. I chose to play running back because as a 12-year-old I was remarkably fast having timed 5.3 in the 40 yard-dash. After a few weeks in the season we approached the playoffs and found out our opponent for the first round of the playoffs were the jaguars who were undefeated. Our team didn’t have the best chemistry on…
