Personal Narrative: Running Back
It was the first day of summer workouts and we had just got done stretching, we were getting ready to go with our individual coaches. When we were trying to work on inside run game and we needed a full back. I was a pretty big running back and not as fast as some of the others so all of the other players were telling me to play full back. I got mad and didn’t like being told to go to full back so I said “No”. The other guys were saying “you’re way too slow to play running back” and “You have never even played running back why would you try now”, I just took it all in and didn’t say anything. I continued to play running back and try and prove them wrong. After all the summer workouts camp came around and it was finally time to put on the …show more content…
When the quarterback went up behind the center and said his cadence I felt my stomach tighten up and get really nervous until we both took our steps and I got my hands on the ball. I saw the line gave me a big hole to work with and knew it was on the secondary I had to beat, with one cutback and a broken tackle I scored on the first play of the scrimmage. With the actual season about to began I knew the first game was coming closer and closer and I couldn’t wait. Everyday at practice we knew we had to get the little things down to be successful when game time came around. On our last practice which was a friday we went through and made sure everyone knew what different things they were on. When Monday came around and it was time for our first game I was nervous all day but also excited, when the bus left I put on my headphones and was just thinking about the game and everything I had to do right. I was startled to feel someone tap on my shoulder, I took off my headphones and looked up, I heard coach yelling my name and he said “Tron, first offensive series we’re running 37 power be ready”. I put my headphones back on and get back to getting

However, I was in a package against Big Lake and I shut down receiver. The following week in practice while I was working harder than even Coach Herberg came up to me and said “I’m starting you at the corner this week. You had a good game and you deserve it. Good job kid.” We were playing Willmar and I was very nervous. It was my first varsity start. Coaches said that was normal and said for me to relax. I played extremely well and I was very proud of myself. The following three weeks I have started and became more confrontable with playing on Friday night. My focus level was as high as ever and I was improving my talent day by day. Hard work does really pay off. I worked hard and did my job throughout the year and on the field. I listened to my coaches and stayed true to myself and I sure did pay off. I’m playing varsity and had kept the promise I had with myself last…

It's 7am, Monday July 26th 2004. The sun has just risen up and it's already reached 92 Degrees. I'm sweating out of control and out of breath just like the other Sixty- Five teenage boys here. The smell of grass is strong and unpleasant and there is no shaded area in site. The line for water is like a mile long and were all fighting like mad men to get a sip. My legs are burning from the running, my arms hurting from the endless pushups and I'm holding on to the fence to stand up. My whole body is just ready to collapse and don't know if I could do this much longer .In my head I could hear my Moms voice saying " If you want something in life you have to work hard for it nobody is going to give it to you. I hear a whistle blowing and a voice saying "Alright boys your break is over get ready for more sprints". To some people this may sound like I'm in hell but this is what I had to go through in the summer of 2004 just to play football.…

It was an amazing time and i was imagining me in the hall of fame and being one of the best baseball players ever. We get back to our dorm and we find out we are going to face. It was the best team in California and they were projected to win the whole tournament. We were all so nervous and trying to focus. We ended up winning the game 5 to 4 with me hitting 2 homeruns. We were onto the championship game. It was view online by thousands of people and everybody was watching us. It was the most nervous I have even been for a game. A lot of people were watching us and everybody was trying to stay calm and act like nobody's watching. That calmed everybody down. It was the 7th inning and it was a tie game. We were up to bat against a pitcher that was throwing 80 miles per hour. Our lead off hitter got on base with a walk. The next hitter got hit by the pitch. He got a base hit and the bases were loaded with no outs. I was up to bat and I was very nervous and was thinking not to try too hard and try to get a hit. My coach called me over and said “ Don’t be nervous, it’s just like a normal at bat, you don’t need be overly anxious and try to be a hero.” That helped me out a lot, I was calm and was trying to do nothing special. I swing and miss at the first pitch. The second was a ball outside, it was a 1-1 count. The next pitch was a fastball right down the middle. I took my hardest swing I could and I hit the ball right on the…

The game went by with no hiccups, we easily won that one. It was a blowout! I can't remember the score, I couldn't even recall how many touchdowns or sacks I had, there were too many. I had bone crushing hits on the quarterback playing defensive end and sped past defenders at running back. While I was getting ready for the varsity game, I didn't feel right, the game didn't feel right. But like they say the show must go on! It was a very slow start for us in the varsity game. We didn't even score in the first half and I didn't get a sack. I felt like I lead the team down, I was supposed to be the leader of this…

The kick-off approached for both teams, just instantly. Moment from of other football games, and practices were rushing through our brains. It’s cold, damp and misty. The fog covers my view of everything in front of me. I can only hear the sounds of both the shouting of the men following me and the footsteps of my acquaintance ahead of me. The urge to keep running surges through my veins. My mind is clouded due to the adrenaline. Adrenaline, what an interesting thing. It seems to take over your body. Almost as if there’s another hand on the steering wheel controlling my body. I begin to slow down in exhaustion. There is a shooting pain in my legs and the adrenaline can only help so much. My acquaintance whose name is Robert, I’ve known for a long time. All I know is that he came with me when I escaped the horrors of the place known as Fairfield. I don’t remember my time in there…

One scorching summer I sat in the locker room at Biggersville High School with the rest of my football teammates from East Union. We, the Urchins, have played only one other game as a team. We prepared to head down to the field to warm-up for the second half of the game. We had been losing at this point down by two touchdowns starting off the second half. The first play after kick-off we started on defense. The quarterback snapped the ball and the tight end came rushing right for me. I turned to keep him from blocking me and that is when I herd and felt the pop.…
