We discussed many interesting things in the interview, but one of the most interesting things was getting to know Julie. She is constantly using communication skills throughout the day. According to Julie, she must communicate face to face, she must do promotions,
and she must communicate clearly when teaching. Julie meets face to face with students all the time, she plans with people, and sends emails to everyone. One of the most important things to Julie is networking, it's how she got to where she is today and it's how she is going to make people aware of Media Arts and Sciences.
In our interview Julie stressed how important networking is for Media Arts and Sciences and many other majors. She told me to network, put my self out there, and get to know people. Those people can then refer me to employers. Doing this is very important, according to Julie, it's how she got her job at IUPUI. The best way to enter an occupation within Media Arts and Sciences is to network. I must know the right people and seriously put myself out there, along with having honed my skills.
One other Important thing I need to do, according to Julie, is to hone my programming and design skills. Sense I wasn't certain of what I wanted to do she told me to get familiar with both. In doing that I will most likely discover what part of the Media Arts and Sciences major is right for me. Knowing both programming and design will improve the likelihood of my success. She also recommends I really put my all into my work so I can use them in my portfolio.
Julie told me lots of important information about networking, the skills I need, and I learned a lot about her. Julie is really an awesome professor and academic adviser. She loves her career and loves to interact with others. One of the most satisfying things for her is to help students and see them grow and discover who they are.
