Personal Narrative: My Journey To Hawaii
When I was just a baby, I left the place where I was born. Hawaii. A beautiful place yet I had to leave and move to a small cow infested town named Hanford. But living in the small community of Hanford, California has made me want to strive to do better for myself and my family in the future.

Born in Honolulu ,Hawaii on the island of Oahu, I lived there for two and a half years. At almost three years old I moved to a small town in the San Joaquin Valley; Hanford, California. I've grown up in a nice home in a well located area in Hanford. But growing up in Hanford I know only what I have seen here and learned about from inside the community. I didn't know much about Hawaii besides being born there and that my grandparents live there. But years later in the summer of 2014, I took a trip to back to the islands of Hawaii.

But once I arrived during that summer I immediately knew that I have missed out on so much. I stayed at my grandma's house the entire time there. We had heard story after story of my dad and her living their interesting lives. We later drove around the island and went to places that were so beautiful and had such amazing food. Once the day came for departure from the islands, I didn't want to go. But coming back to Hanford after learning so much has made a mindset of mine that I want to go to college in

As someone who has lived in Cumberland House, Saskatchewan and Terrace, British Columbia, this wasn't my first Pow Wow. I will say I don't remember going to any in Cumberland House as I was only two when we lived there, but I there are quite a few funny pictures of me, a chubby blond haired blue eyed baby in my pink jacket sitting among all the brown skinned, brown eyed, and black haired Native babies. I do however remember going to Pow Wows in Terrace. These two places are very different from each other, the Costal peoples having very different traditions from the Plains peoples.…

On Saturday, I have attended a Pow Wow that was happening at the California State University of Long Beach. I knew what kind of event it was because this was my second time attending one. At the first Pow Wow, I was able to take the opportunity to volunteer for them and helped them out with the resting area for the dancers and other miscellaneous tasks. I also had the chance to walk around and explore what was provided and stayed at the event until the end. It has been over two years since I had gone to the first Pow Wow so I was excited to see once again the beauty and the uniqueness of the Native Americans and their culture.…

It's hard to not know anything about me because I'm pretty much an open book. But if I had to think of something that most people wouldn't know about me it would be that I was born and raised in Hilo. All my life I lived in Hilo up until my freshman year when I moved to Kona. Right now I'm currently a senior attending Konawaena High School. With that being said, I lived on the Kona side for about 4 years now. The main reason for me moving to this side was because both my parents have jobs out here. My dad, being a manager had already been working out on this side as well as on the Hilo side. My mom on the other hand, got a job promotion that had to be taken in Kona.…

Although I have lived in Ohio for the past ten years and have been molded by the experiences I have had in the small town of Mount Vernon, I can still fondly remember everything about where I was born and raised. I was born on May 29th, 1998 in the small town of Irving, Texas. Growing up in Texas gave me a concept of how big this world truly is, with the seemingly endless drives to visit family members across state or the incomprehensible size of the Dallas skyline. Visiting my aunts in Texas and living with my grandmother during the first months of my living in Ohio taught me valuable life lessons and morals that I carry with me to this day.…

The work on the plantations is very exhausting, and I wish I could move back to Shanghai in China. There are other ethnicities here like Japanese, Korean, and Portuguese, but I usually talk with the other Chinese immigrants. Apparently, there is another language called Pidgin that everyone speaks so they can understand each other. How is everyone else doing over the past 10 years that I have been gone? I hope everything has been fine back in China.…

I was raised in the small town of Hidalgo, Texas, just on the side of the Mexican Border. Living there made me grow up thinking that possibilities were limited and there was not much offered to us. Although, along the years, I realized that this town did not define me , and it actually made me strong enough to take on life elsewhere in the future . I remember being in this town ten years ago, and there was only local businesses . The town has grown along with me, and it has opened up opportunities to its community and myself.…

In conclusion, being born in a third world country is burden for most but I use it to my advantage. It has given me a better understanding of the world. When I moved away from Ethiopia, I constantly thought about my family. I felt like I had lost something that was a part of me. As time went by, I became somber thinking about all the things I took for granted. I constantly thought about all pleasant things that I had the pleasure of enjoying in Ethiopia that I no longer get to. But over time, I learned how to use that wistful energy to become a driving force for my success. I have so loads of dreams and I aspire to do great things. No matter what, I will never forget my birthplace. I can tell you my quest wasn’t effortless, but I have to keep…

Nearing the end of the tube I can almost see the shore, It feels as if I've been riding this wave for days. This wave is my hurdle in the ocean that is life, choppy at the beginning but slowly passing by. The ocean has many waves, one for each surfer to ride, my specialty wave happened to be dyslexia. It was in the second grade that my teacher first realized I was different from the other students, because I had yet to read my first book. My parents had found this odd as well, and took me to see a neurologist, who diagnosed me as having dyslexia. I did not quite know what this meant at the time, I only knew that it was the reason I could not comprehend the topics as easily as my classmates.…

My family lived on Orcas Island for ten years, and now I am free. The island, though beautiful, felt tiny and far away from everywhere important. A majority of my days in high school I willed myself through classes by filling notebooks with drawings of space stations and birds. The only two activities that I really enjoyed were Art Club, which I did for three years, and Yearbook Club, which I did for two. These activities were the only real sense of accomplishment during my time on the island. A terrible high school math experience set me up for a belief that I did not have the brains for math or science, and in junior and senior year of high school my online running start classes combined horribly with this lack of confidence in my academic…

My family and I had just landed on Oahu. The sight was one to behold. Beautiful grass-covered mountain ranges and a clear blue sky. We had seen the other islands of Hawaii leading up to Oahu like Maui and the Big Island but none of them were like this. When my family and I had gotten off the plane we were given lei’s to welcome us to what was a foreign place. We immediately got our luggage from the conveyor belt and a rental car, a 2016 Toyota Highlander that was as black as the night. The air and temperature of the island was straight out of the movies you’d seen about Hawaii. A perfect 82 degrees with a nice cool and crisp breeze to back it up. We could already tell that this vacation was going to be fantastic.…

I had gotten taken out of my new school and I had to move into a new home away from all my friends. This temporary isolation from my real home in Franklin at first I thought couldn’t get any worse turned out to be a great life changing experience in my life.…

Louisville, Kentucky is now where my family would land. The home of horses and blue grass but as an 11 year old boy, all I thought it would be is the home of hillbillies. I was not excited about moving from a place that I loved, to a strange place again. This was just another part of my journey in life; being in a new place and making new friends; rebuilding my life in another state. It was exciting but…

Here it is the place I have been referring to...Napili Bay. The archway leading down to the beach is entwined with bright pink magenta Bougainvillea’s and shades a golden sandy dirt path. At the end of the little walk way, leaning against the cinder-block wall are local Hawaiians welcoming me. Standing there talking, I stare out at the…
