Avoiding all the curve balls that were thrown at them, the ChMS Baseball team took the necessary steps to get to an advanced level. With 28 wins and 8 losses, they practiced everyday to become more and more talented. “My favorite part about this season was that everyone got along and worked hard together,” commented Lucas Jennings. The head coach of the team is Coach Ayers, and the assistant coach is Coach Green. These two coaches pushed their players to their limits to make them the best of the best. Most of the 8th grade players will be moving up next year to high school baseball. “Next season I am mainly looking forward to playing with older high school students,” said Carter Frederick. Most of the players have been playing for a long time…
Over the weekend I had a huge Soccer Tournament in Grey. We had two games on Saturday and one game Sunday. In the first game we played a Cumberland club team and beat them 2-0. In our second game we played Westbrook and won 5-0. So at the end of the day we were 2-0 and in first for our bracket, but winslow was also 2-0. Going into Sunday we had to beat South Portland by two goals and not let them score. We ended up tying them 3-3 and we got eliminated because Winslow beat Westbrook 4-0.…
Since I was 7 years old, I have always participated in Greenwich’s very own Cardinal Baseball Camp. However, until last summer, I had always been one of the campers. This year I was an official volunteer of the camp. Everyday from 8 a.m. till 12 p.m., me and approximately 30 other staff members at the camp would teach young kids how to play baseball. This camp is run very locally, and it is very personalized, something that should truly be valued in a large town like Greenwich. Although not perfect, this is the best camp in town, and it will continue to stay that way as it continues to improve itself. The Greenwich Cardinal Baseball Camp is a very effective place for kids to go and not only learn the game of baseball, but meet new friends,…
The intense roaring of the crowd gradually faded into the vast abyss of his mind. As the last seconds ticked away, his breath got heavier and he knew that it was now or never. He knew he had to make the shot, he could not just mess this one up. At that last moment when the ball left his hands flying into the air, time seemed to have slowed down as the buzzer went off simultaneously.…
Imagine looking forward to just one thing all year, and that one thing got ruined. That is how I felt about this game. It completely crushed me. The Harleton softball game has shaped me because of the build up, the people around me, and how I felt during the game.…
Baseball is more than just a game, it is a lifestyle that opens up opportunities for the future and helps one truly learn about themselves. When I was five years old I started my career in baseball and from the first day I fell in love with the game. It takes a keen eye to see the truth behind baseball and why the game is played the way it is. My journey towards the love of the game is very particular and I wouldn't be the person I am today without it.…
New York, the state where dreams are turned into reality. The best of the best come here to hopefully win the one thing every fastpitch softball player wishes for and all of their hopes and dreams revolve around this one week. Nationals.…
I was 5 years old ,and I was sitting on my brand new trampoline... my parents then came out and said ,” You wanna try something new like maybe softball. “ I of course said ,”YES!!” The next day I had softball practice and I was scared about there being the mean girls on the team. I knew that there were going to be the girls that thought they were the best. And there was. I had one person help me out and that was my dad and mom helped sometimes. I was scared of playing softball once I got on the field ,because the ball moved so fast coming at me. I have wanted to give up softball many many times ,but I did because my dad would push and get me to get in the yard to practice. I know that I will try more new things in the future. For, instance…
I have experienced many failures in my life but one stuck out to me more than others. I have wrestled since I was 8 years old. Through all my matches I have wrestled in my life, something hit me. My sophomore year I worked really hard to make it to the state tournament. Going into the sectional tournament, my record was 19-3. I had a by the first round which put me in the semi-finals. After winning my semi-finals match 12-4, that put me in the finals against a kid I wrestled 3 times before this. He pinned me the first time we wrestled and the next 2 times we wrestled I pinned him. Going into this match I had a lot of confidence because I knew I could win. I underestimated the want he had to win. He surprised me and came out strong. My sectional…
He is the only reason why I get up every morning, most of the time I would get up because I was one day closer to be on that softball field. I seriously lost a very important pieces of my life on October the 20th I found out that I completely tore my ACL and I was having surgery two weeks later. That was the day that had broken my heart until these 6 months are over. It told something that I loved away, actually it took more than one thing away from me. It took the most important game I love which is softball, it took my pride, my reputation, and my dignity. How am I supposed to be a leader to my team and my classmates, when i'm gimping around. You know the saying go big or go home, will I went big and still going home. Recovery has been one…
I couldn't be more excited to finally play on a girls golf team starting this next Monday! After having three concussions ending my soccer career, my dad came to me and suggested I join the golf team. As a freshman, I joined the boys team at Slinger High School. Most of the guys accepted the idea of a girl playing with them. Many helped me out and treated me like any other teammate, which definitely calmed my nerves for the first few weeks. I competed in almost all the matches. The first few matches were very scary because I got many strange looks from other teams. My teammates were always there for me though. I became so comfortable and by the end of the season I made many friends and accomplished a lot as an individual. I found myself in…
When I was 4 years old, I started playing T-Ball and I became obsessed with the sport. I played every summer from 4 years old until I started playing school ball. I loved the sport so much, I played travel ball every summer and fall. My goal was to play college baseball after graduating high school. I quit all other sports so I could train year around on baseball. My senior year I was chosen to take part in the Under Armour Baseball Tournament in Bradenton, Florida. I got to stay and train in the Pittsburgh Pirates facility. Once, I got back in school, the guidance counselor was meeting with each student to discuss their plans for college. Of course, my plan was to get a scholarship to play baseball and I had not really thought…
The dorky, round glasses settled crookedly on my face, and my poor fashion sense gave the impression of an athletic misfit. Being the smallest, most awkward student in school never had any advantages. I felt my life was full of challenges, and thus, I had to strive to prove my small stature did not hinder me in the slightest. I struggled throughout my younger years to find a sport that suited me but I finally decided to dedicate myself to the pursuit of playing college softball.…
I was fourteen years old just starting my new chapter of life at Hamilton High School. I did not really know what to expect from high school but the year started great. I was having fun in my classes and made some great friends. However, I was nervous about the Varsity Golf team tryout. I played golf for about a year leading up to the tryout not knowing what to expect. I felt like I had a really great chance of making the team and join a varsity team at Hamilton.…
In the Summer of 2017, I received a phone call that was full of excitement. Up to this point it was high school baseball season and I was playing baseball for Senior. Baseball is my favorite sport, so I dedicate a lot of time practicing and working out to get ready for the season. It was midway through the season when the big doubleheader with our crosstown rival Hempstead, approached. We ended up sweeping the mustangs which gave us the outright of the city championship. I went 4-6 at the plate, with four RBI's and my first career home run. The following weekend, my coach had told me that I had won TH Athlete of the Week and that I was going to be receiving a phone call. My phone finally started ringing and I quickly picked it. "Hello," I said…
