Personal Narrative: My Structure At Grace University
I am an 18 year old finishing up her freshman year of college. As well as playing on a collegiate soccer team. I am living on campus experiencing living on my own away from family and getting the ”opportunity” in making life decisions with little help from my parents. As a typical collegiate athlete student, I am overwhelmed with homework, sports, and trying to fit in a “life” here. As well as running on little sleep because of school catching up with me. Grace University has caused many stressful moments throughout this year, but that comes with any typical college. Classes, practices, games, SLT’s, and chapels so far have been the only part of my life and my structure at Grace. I am not generally from here, but because my dad’s side of the
family living in towns surrounding Omaha I know the area a tiny bit.
In my life I have multiple people who have influenced me one way or another. Starting with my immediate family, my parents and brother have influenced me a lot. Because of living with them for the first half of my life I got to see how they interact with the real world, how to deal with people and issues, how to grow with God, etc. My brother taught me how to do be a leader on the soccer team, how to be an example to my friends that aren’t Christian, and how to stand firm on my beliefs in God. My family is a huge support system in my life and will always have my back no matter where I am. My dad’s side of the family has been a Godly influence on me because of where they came from in the past and how they have grown to know God.
My church is another influence because of the people in it. I moved to Iowa hating the fact that I had lost my friends and had to start over. Iowa was, at that time, the worst place I could have been, I just wanted to go back. After a while I was blessed with friends and leaders from my church. I became more and more involved on worship team, human video, helping in children church and with middle schoolers. Majority of friends came from the church atmosphere. People can define who you are by how you act around them. My friends influenced me because I cared what they had to say and they helped me in situations at school.
