A work as a courtesy clerk for Hy-Vee after my classes and on the weekends. I have worked there for over two years and transferred last semester so that I could attend college in the Ankeny area. Because I do around five to six classes a semester I always have to be careful about the amount of hours that I take on. Sometimes my shifts can be around twenty hours and week which, coupled with all the schoolwork that I do, can be taxing at times. Because of the fact that I live on campus, the location of my work is very important and was a defining reason of why I decided to transfer to the Hy-Vee on South West State Street. Living on campus is another stressful aspect of my life as a college student. Even though there is a sense of freedom that comes with having your own place to live, it still is a large responsibility to manage. Paying rent while also taking maintaining a stable living environment takes quite a bit of effort and, fortunately, I have survived at least one semester. I’m glad I’ve taken on this task, however, as it’s yet another example of the ways that I have continued to prepare myself for larger responsibilities down the
