At the beginning I asked a lot of questions from the athletic department and we talked about their security aspect. There were times I did question the vision of the project so that I could get a better understanding. I analyzed the situation, and was open to new ideas. I had the willingness to examine opinions, beliefs, assumptions against all of the facts that I had collected (Bethel University, 2013). Being open to new ideas helps to ensure coordination of events to be successful.
The next process was to use the four problem solving techniques, whenever there is a problem, there always room for improvement and a way to fix any problem that may arise (Forbes, R. 1996). When using the four problem solving techniques I found that they work to fix the problem before they occur. The biggest problems that I ran into when putting together a security plan for the stadium was how many officers and security personnel would be needed on the home side and how many on the visitors side of the stadium. I came up with the most of the security concerns by analyzing the blue prints.
In order to prevent any unwanted occurrences or incidence in the middle of June I started the planning process from the start of the upcoming football season which starts in September. When we start the process early helps to anticipate unwanted problems or concerns that may occur. In the planning process I have to make sure that all assign location in the stadium are covered. If there are any changes in assigned personnel I have to shift personnel around to cover the shortage, because we only have a certain amount of officers assigned to the game and then we have to ask for help from the county and city of Clarksville, TN. We also have to plan for the unexpected disasters such as active shooter, tornados, lightening and anything that may become a hazard. We then have a staff meeting with the heads of the athletic department and we brainstorm the strategies of every area of the venue, from the inside security, tailgate alley, to the security of parking lots and gates. In that setting, we can get a fresh perspective and opinions from others outside our law enforcement arena. There are going to be changing from one game to the next and we will make the necessary adjustments. There will also be shortcomings or mistakes that have to be corrected along the way. The most important part of the process is that we kept a journal checklist with a time line on the things that we have to accomplish from months out to the day of the game. After the game we have another staff meeting and conduct an after action review of things that went wrong and other things that we need to sustain and maintain (Bethel University, 2013). It is important that we practice these scenarios to ensure that we get it right for the protection of our faculty, staff, students and visitors.
