Sometimes getting hit by a pitch, laying down a sacrifice bunt, getting in a tight pickle, and walking a batter are things that don’t look good on paper — could even hinder the chance of getting a scholarship — but are what the team needs at the time. Off the field, selflessness can translate into being the bigger person. Being the bigger person consists of growing up and being mature, such as: biting my tongue when someone says something I don’t agree with, not interjecting on someone when I know they are putting their own spin on the truth, and just dealing with people I’m not particularly fond of. They are like my favorite tie blanket, and comparable to beating Rebecca Sletten in steps on FitBit. They make my days so good, and fill my nights with more adventure than the Backyardigans could ever imagine. They are the definition of spontaneous, which is one of my most favorite things in life. Without them I’d be going to bed before four in the morning, and would yet to have lost my Buffalo Wild Wings virginity.
