Personal Narrative: The 2016 Presidential Election
The 2016 Presidential Election was easily the most negative Election in recent history. Apart from my policy disagreements with President Elect Trump, I am morally repulsed by his conduct. My Hispanic friends were offended by the insinuation a that Mexican immigrants were criminals and a unwanted burden on the United States. My female friends were terrified by his misogyny and open, joking (at best) attitude towards sexual assault. I was disgusted by his disdain for the environment and the truth.

With all the open revulsion for Trump, I was extremely surprised when my close friend, Jonah, came to school wearing a red hat embroidered with four innocent words that represented hate to so many. After the initial shock subsided, I decided to confront

The Hempfield Spartans 7th grade team would be ending their season 0-7 if we didn’t win today. As I was changing into my pads my friend mike walked in the room. I said “you ready for tonight”. “Heck yeah” replied Mike.…

My political viewpoint has changed dramatically since I was first introduced to politics. I come from a democratic family, where it is strongly believed that it is the government’s responsibility to care for all people and that the government knows what is best for all people. Every voting season, my parents vote for a democratic president and explain to me the reasoning behind their decision. It was not until I was in the tenth grade that I realized that I did not hold the same political beliefs as my parents. After taking several political quizzes and extensively researching the bevy of political parties, I now know that I am an independent. What is an independent? An independent is an individual politician not affiliated to any political…

When I was a little older, I became more observant to the issues and concerns of my peers around me. I started to see the equality issues that surrounded my friends everyday. People would make fun of me for the color of my skin, my homosexual friends would get bullied for loving who they did, and my female friends would always be expected to do less and be less than my their male counterparts.…

I am American. I was born in the United States America. Being an American has various meanings for me. It means I have endless opportunities. It means that I have a standard to uphold. And finally, it means that I am very lucky. When I think of America, I think of the blood and tears that was shed in order to make this beloved country. I think of the Revolutionary war and the thousands of fathers, brothers, and uncles that stood up, fought, and died for freedom. I think of the Civil War, and the bravery and nobility that was shown when fighting for what people believed in. I think of the 20th century, when technological innovation was at its height, and the great working minds that gave us what we know today. I think of World War Two and the…

If I were to describe my political ideology, I would consider myself mostly liberal with some independent views. I believe in equality for everyone, regardless of gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, nationality, etc. I think Americans need to be a little more accepting, and open to reaching out and helping those in need. This country needs to continue moving forward and growing, and I do not see that happening with a conservative in charge.…

Controversy has been circulating around the current presidential campaign. The Democratic nominee is Hillary Clinton and the Republican nominee is Donald Trump. Both have had confusing claims and radical ideas, but Donald Trump’s ideas have gotten out of line and created a great deal of pain. He has many good qualities, yet his bad qualities have recently been shining through. He began to blame other ethnic groups for the United States’ economic, foreign, and political trouble. Ideas like building a wall, prevention of immigration, and bombing other countries have been stated by Trump. His claims started fear worldwide, which initiated fights and violent rampages. Neither candidates are perfect for the presidential position, but this issue…

I drew a picture that I think best resembles one of the things that I am most thankful for: freedom. When I think of freedom, I think of the White House, because that is one of the major icons of this country. I also think of a fighter jet (the F-15E specifically because my dad is in the Air Force and that is the jet that he flies.) Another thing that I think of is the U.S capitol building, with its huge, massive structure and its magnificent dome looming over Washington D.C, symbolizing the great power and freedom that we have. Also, a red cross and a modern hospital representing the first-class healthcare that we have is another icon that I drew representing freedom and our great nation. A wooden cross logged into the top of a hill with…

Showing that even if someone is not a victim, they will still notice the change. A research fellow at The Bridge Initiative warned that, “It’s been hard up until now to say that Trump is the sole reason for this, what will be interesting is how often racist attacks are accompanied by explicit support for Donald Trump.” Essentially, the overall point being made was that other points can be made that Trump is not the direct reason for these cases, but Trump is definitely an influence on these racist attacks (Sidahmed). Donald Trump is also known for going against specific races. And when he does this, it leaves a mark that shows what type of person he is, and it also give his supporters a new way of acting towards people that do not agree with their beliefs: “During the 2016 campaign, Trump characterized many Latino immigrants as ‘criminals,’ ‘rapists’ and sources of ‘infectious disease.’ He called for banning Muslims from entering the U.S.” Trump has influenced many acts of racism. By him going against certain groups, it causes his supporters to do so as well. Even though they are pro-Trump for other reasons, they try to connect with Trump in everything he does (Neuhauser). Overall, it is straightforward that there is a correlation between acts of racism and the outcome of the past…

Football has always been a big part of my life. As a young boy I would day dream of making insane touchdowns, making tackles that would leave man stuck in the ground, and even winning the heisman trophy. In 7th grade I had begged my mother endlessly to sign me up for pee wee football because she would always worry about the risks of football. After finally getting her to sign me up, we went straight into the season. I chose to play running back because as a 12-year-old I was remarkably fast having timed 5.3 in the 40 yard-dash. After a few weeks in the season we approached the playoffs and found out our opponent for the first round of the playoffs were the jaguars who were undefeated. Our team didn’t have the best chemistry on…

It seems like around the year 2010, was the last time I remember our country being the place us millennials had come to know, understand, and love as the land of the free. The place that banded together when such tragedies like 9/11 had struck our country and our people without notice. It seemed like one of the only countries where racist, misogynistic, and homophobic rhetoric was just not spewed. And if it ever was, that person would be condemned for spewing it. But as I said, that feeling was felt around the year 2010. Six long years have gone by since then, and I definitely think it is safe to say that that feeling I spoke of before is long gone from many Americans today as 2016 is wrapping up. Being that 2016 was an election year for us,…
