I'm not much of a sucker for romantic comedies, or chick flicks, but The Other Sister had such an endearing quality about it that I couldn't help but fall in love.
The Other Sister tells the story of Carla Tate, a young woman who has resided in a training school for many years because of her mental handicap. Carla's only hope is that she will be accepted for all the things she can now do for herself. Carla's family's wealth allows her mother, already blinded to her daughter's rather high-functioning abilities, to dote on Carla beyond her needs or desires, bringing forth many confrontations. But what

"Before death I hope to obtain life." This quote reminds me of my Michigan Hero Danielle Nash. Danielle was my cousin who was diagnosed with stage four Melanoma and Brain Cancer at age 26. Before cancer, she opened her own Day Care/ Preschool in Whitehall called Bright Futures, she was only 21. She also started the first Middle School Competitive Cheerleading Team in Reeths Puffer and was also the head coach of the Varsity Reeths Puffer Competitive Cheerleading team. She lived in the Whitehall area her whole life, and had a husband named Jake and two kids, Brady who is now four and Addisyn who is two. “I got this! I got this! Just calm down and take position. You have prepared yourself for this race all morning.” “Just take your position and breathe.” “Why is my heart pounding like this?” “Inhale and exhale.” This is normal for UWA freshman Sarah McMillion on race day. Language has played a big role in making my life successful. As senior year was ending I had a major life changing decision. I was unsure whether to pursue my passion of baseball in California, or to hang up my cleats for the last time on a high note. Although this was not a life or death decision, It was still a decision that was still near and dear to my heart. After going to several people for help and many sleepless nights, I still felt helpless. I finally came to the conclusion after hearing "The Babe" in the movie Sandlot tell Benny Rodriguez, "Everybody gets one chance to do something great. Most people never take the chance, either because they're too scared, or they don't recognize it when it spits on their shoes." that’s when I decide…

In this short story we meet Sister and four members of her family. The Protaganist of the story ia Sister , the oldest child of two girls, and her younger sister Stella-Rondo is the family favorite. It seems everything Sister wants, Stella-Rondo gets. Sister says that Stella-Rondo stole her boyfriend for it was Sister who had been dating Mr. Whitaker first until Stella- Rondo, being the jealous person she was told him that Sister was "one-sided," unequal on both sides. And that in-turn ended the relationship.Sisters real problem is that she is extreamly jelous of Stella-rondo. And she, Sister, at times can be a little selfish. For instance at the end Sister says to herself, "And if Stella-Rondo should come to me this minute, on bended knee, and attempt to explain the incidents of her life with Mr. Whitaker, I'd simply put my fingers in both my ears and refuse to listen" (153). That statement alone defines her jealously and selfishness towards her sister, because it seems Mr. Whitaker is the only thing she is really upset about for she makes no mention about any of the other family members,…

This is another quote that focuses on the amount of women all over the world who are forced to last (through bad times) whatever harm comes their way. Not only in Afghanistan, but in every country, and every neighbourhood. This is an on going issue in the world that has been around for centuries and is one that is often times 'swept under the rug.' To me, this issue should not be over looked at all, and I would certainly like to see and take part in educating (communities of people) on women's…

Suddenly, I woke to the sound of pain and stress. In the dimmed hotel room, my mother was laid roughly on the bed motioning that she didn’t feel well. We had traveled the far and exciting journey to Las Vegas to witness my mom finish a half marathon. It was an event that she had spent minutes, hours, days, and months training for. I couldn’t believe that after all of the work my mom had done in the past year, she wouldn’t be able to compete on the big day. I was wrong though when my mom sat up, tidied her tangled hair and nonchalantly said, “let’s do this”.…
