Personal Narrative-Volkswagen Passat
As I start my 2001 Volkswagen Passat for the first time in 2 months, it clicks for a few seconds before rolling over. The back left speaker doesn’t work anymore and the button for the trunk doesn’t work anymore so I just have to use the key. All these malfunctions remind me of August 27th, the day my car flooded. My good friend, Ben Lund, and I just got done eating Subway and decided to go to Sioux Falls so we could get school supplies. On our way up there I get a call from my girlfriend, Jenna Horrocks, saying that she no longer has band practice. It was cut short because of a thunder storm that was coming. We decided to go pick her up just so we could hangout. As we were on our way to go pick her up, it began to rain. Hard. As we were turning off to get on the interstate, a guy in a yellow cobalt cuts us off almost causing us to rear-end him, Ben and I retaliate by cussing him out. “How someone can drive so stupidly in such bad weather?” I ask Ben. “Some people I guess.” Mutters Ben. Ben and I pull into the Howard Wood Field parking lot and wait for Jenna. I see her running through the …show more content…
At this point I can barely see. I’ve never seen it rain this hard in my life, except when we went to Arizona during monsoon season. We find a place to park. Surprise surprise, there aren’t many people at Barnes and Noble during a terrifying thunder storm. We run inside trying not to get drenched. Trying to ignore the cracks of thunder and pounding of rain on the roof, we casually talk about book series we like and have read. After a while of our way-too-casual conversation, we start trying to figure out what we’re going to do. Jenna calls her father to explain what’s going on. He says something along the lines of be safe and do what you need to in order to get home safe. I somehow decide that it would be a good idea to try to get through the storm, get Jenna home, and drive Ben and myself

On a sunny Saturday morning when I was 5 years old, my sister and I were playing a game where we would push ourselves off of our bed like it was a slide. Our room was a pigsty; it looked as if a tornado had passed through. The mess from our closet met up with the end of our bed. I had just slid down the bed feet first into the mess when it happened.…

On a damp, Saturday afternoon, in the rural southern town, of Wrongberight, Clemmy Sue Jarvis sits in silence on the top step of her front porch, sipping lemon laced ice tea from a chipped mason jar. The moment her pale blue eyes catch sight of the storm approaching from the northeast, she becomes vexed. Given that, four days of intermittent rainstorms had already saturated every inch of town and transformed the roadways into a never-ending slip and slide. Clemmy Sue adamantly detests the idea of venturing out onto the deplorable roadways. However, the only way to accomplish what she needs to achieve today, means getting behind the wheel of her rusty Ford pickup.…

While lying on the grass in the front yard, I imagined the exciting night ahead. Before long, Taylor and his girlfriend, Kara, arrived and picked me up. Almost immediately, I stood up and sauntered in my Duke sweatshirt and basketball shorts over to their car. I jumped into the backseat. Immediately, I was assaulted with the strong smell of perfume that had been sprayed inside the car because it belonged to Kara. Tonight instead of driving, she decided to let Taylor drive illegally without a license. As we drove off to Erik’s house, the rendezvous for tonight’s “Goatman” adventure, we saw a police officer had just pulled a car over. As we drove by, we breathe easier and relaxed because we didn’t see any more cops on the way.…

Another day, another run. Far from being dull, though, Senri saw it as yet another opportunity to push herself. So it was that she found herself out by Central Park turning the streets into her playground, her medical supplies strapped to her legs as usual. A good thing, too, because from the sound of that explosion, she was going to need them! Curiosity and concern both piqued, she made a beeline for its source, helped along by the smoke already trailing into the sky. Gathering the wind about herself, she kicked in a burst of speed, feet barely touching the ground. As an afterthought, she fumbled out the polarized ski goggles that served to conceal her identity, slipping them over her head with a wince as the already fastened straps pull at her hair. She tugs her hood up just in time to round a corner... and skid to a stop at the scene unfolding before her. "All this only a few blocks away. What are the odds...?" In…

The narrative, The Driver’s Seat struck home for me because I just received my driver’s license this past May, 2015. I took time for me to actually drive and to become comfortable behind the wheel of a car. This piece of writing spoke to me and allowed me to review some of the identical thinking points that I went through while getting to the point of taking control of my dad’s car. The story effectively walked me through the trials of spirit and mental anguish that preceded me in taking hold of the vehicle with my dad as the co-pilot giving directions. This was the exact thing the driving instructor in The Driver’s Seat‘ taught the author. The routine of how to maneuver and throw caution to the wind- taking risks- to get the author over…

I’m not satisfied with my car ride; it’s too rough. For instance, when a road surface has grooves in it, the wheels get pulled in every direction. My tires’ treads seem too deep for ordinary city driving. Bumps and potholes usually send my passengers’ heads straight into the roof. When I bought my car, I asked about its stiff suspension and heavy-duty tires. The salesperson told me that the suspensions’ elements would eventually soften for a smoother ride, but they haven’t. I should have known not to trust anyone’s words more than my own instincts.…

Meg pulled her fluffy black blanket close to her, so she can actually feel some warmth during the dismal storms of winds and at high speeds of rain and air. Ordinarily, the storms that weren’t usually this harsh, typically she would doze off right though the night. However in this storm, her mind continued to ruminate about her stress at school. The wind was loud as those sport announcers, she watches on tv sometimes, they shouted when somebody on the Red Sox hit a homerun. The rushing droplets of water smashing against the roof, sounded like as if somebody had bags of pebbles weighed by the pound, and they kept throwing their endless stash of bags on top of the roof.…

On the eastern shores of Virginia in the picturesque hamlet of Wrongberight, recent summer rainstorms have transformed the roadways, into a never-ending slip and slide. Clemmy Sue Jarvis, a petite, vivacious woman of sixty-three, detested driving on rain soaked roads. However, she had no choice, late Saturday afternoon, but to cautiously, eased out of her driveway, and turn south on to Flat Bottom Road. All was well until she was about fifty yards, from her dearest friend Estelle Louise’s long dirt driveway and she skidded across a massive oil slick. As a result, she closed her deep-set green eyes and prayed, as her rusty Chevy pickup, pieced together with hairpins, bubble gum, and duct tape, spun in circles, down the middle of the country road. Eventually it slithered sideways and abruptly stopped.…

Penny, my driving instructor, was sitting beside me reminding me to breathe and that I was doing great. As I turned onto the next road, I was relieved to realize we were headed back to Augusta and that we were almost done. I began to settle in while going at a comfortable speed of 50 mph down a straight smooth road. Soon, we entered the hustle and bustle of town and once again the tenseness and panic crept in. I was stopped at the traffic light just before the uneven, dirt driveway of “The Driving School.” The light turned green and I rolled up to the entrance of the driveway with my left blinker on, but a man with a baby stroller was slowly making his way across the parking lot.…
