In order to fully immerse myself in the athletic environment at UConn, I joined the Women’s Club Ice Hockey team and found work as a UConn Club Sports Manager. Both of these experiences have enhanced my knowledge of communication. My duties as a Club Sports Manager require me to interact with all of the club sports teams here at UConn to ensure that we provide the best experience possible for all club sports athletes. As the treasurer of my hockey team I am required to stay in close contact with companies, coaches and the UConn Club Sports support staff. Communication is vital for every professional position in the sport industry. Athletes, coaches, reporters, writers, managers and so on need to have impeccable communication skills in order to be successful. Athletes need to know how to appropriately interact with fans and the media. Coaches must know how to delegate and communicate with their team to enhance their performance. Reporters and writers need to understand how to best present sport related news to attract and keep the attention of an audience. Team general managers and presidents need to be able to communicate effectively in order to handle business deals in regards to trading players, players’ salaries, recruitment and so on.
