Chemistry is the science on which the future relies; research is continually opening up new opportunities for the chemical industry. My passion to make a difference can be achieved through the paths of catalyst design, pharmaceuticals, Medicines, bio-fuels and polymer chemistry. Any one of these routes will provide me with new challenges; in Chemistry there is always something new for me to discover. My infatuation for science began when my high school teacher introduced me to Chemistry by demonstrating a simple reaction of vinegar and bicarbonate of soda, causing me to question the reasons for the effervesce and the acid-base reaction. It was this demonstration of a simple decomposition that sparked my interest in Chemistry. It was not just the demonstration that interested me; it was the desire to understand how and why.I am currently studying A-Levels at The Manchester College, in Maths, Chemistry, Physics and AS-Level in Further Maths and my ability to cope with this busy schedule shows I am able to cope well under pressure. In my January exam modules last year, I achieved three A grades in Maths, Chemistry and Physics. I am enjoying the breadth and depth of my A-Level studies and relish the freedom to work more independently. I have found that sixth-form study offers great scope for reading around my subjects and free periods give me the opportunity to work on solutions to problems before asking for any support or advice from my tutors. My love of science and aspiration for a Chemistry career is reflected in my A-Level choices where good time management, self motivated study skills and ability to cope with stress and pressure are essential. Chemistry and Physics have helped me further my interest and develop my analytical skills, Maths helps my problem solving skills and helps me to work logically. I believe all the qualities I have developed through my courses are essential for any good chemists. I enjoy reading, mainly factual books to
