CTE is a deadly brain disease that can develop from the repetitive hits in contact sports. Many kids start playing sports at young ages. But due to their young age their brains and bodies aren’t fully developed yet, leaving them more vulnerable to injuries, mainly to their brains. With more and more kids playing contact sports at even younger ages the risk of more kids getting hurt is increasing. In children ages 15 years and under, the estimated incident rate of TBI, or traumatic brain injury is 180 per 100,000 children per year of which approximately 85% are categorized as mild injuries in the US, it has been estimated that 1 million children sustain TBI’s annually and that TBI accounts for more than 250,000 pediatric hospital admissions as well as more than 10% of all visits to the emergency service settings.
