of incorporating foreign genetic material (e.g. from viruses, bacteria) into crops, with unpredictable consequences.” Which in context means that they put viruses in our food that are unhealthy and can make us sick, but we still eat them and they do not care. The companies will put anything they can on these foods to make money and not look at the effects it has on the people they give them to. Secondly, these foods should have labels on them because we do not know the side effects it has on other foods we eat. The use of GMOs in crop fields has increased the use of pesticide use. According to “GMO Lies: Study Shows ‘How Pesticide Use Soars with more GMO Crops”, “More neonics were used to the tune of 34−44% more for GM soybeans and 79−100% of GM corn hectares being treated in 2011.” That is a rapid increase of pesticide use that can run off into our other crops and contaminate them. Also, E Toxin Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) has been found in the blood of pregnant women and newborn children's’ cord blood which can lead back to the pesticide they use on the crop to cross breed them. Lastly, these labels should be on GMO foods because no real testing has been done to prove they are safe to eat.
“Say no to GMOs” adds, “The resulting GM foods have undergone little rigorous and no long term safety testing, but animal feeding tests have shown worrying health effects.” They have done test on animals however not on humans. If they do go into testing it is short terms and nobody's there to regulate how they do the test and they could easily alter the results. The only test that has been published on GMOs found that these food had contained gut bacteria but was never researched or looked into any further. So we have no real evidence that these foods are okay to eat. No one is there to look into the illnesses that these foods has caused. On the same token we have no clue who or how many people have been affected by GMOs. On the other hand, many supporters of not labeling GMOs say that it helps the farming techniques and you are able to mass produce crops and increase the food surplus. It is true it speeds up the process of crop growing and increases the mass production, however doing this spreads more chemicals to their plants and has a big chance to contaminate the other crops that we eat everyday. Increasing the amount of diseases we can
attract. Therefore, labeling of GMO foods should be a regulation the government should issue because:we do not know what harmful things are in the foods, the side effects it has on other foods too, and no real testing has been done to prove these foods are even okay for us to eat. If more people knew these facts and statistics, we could make the health department use action to put labeling on GMO foods.
