Imagine a family peacefully enjoying their time together one evening safe in their house until a robber breaks into the house and threatens to do terrible things to the family but, someone in the household is wielding a firearm and deters the robber. Now imagine the same scenario as before but how different the outcome might have been if firearm were not present and the family was subject to the cruelty of the robber and how dreadful that might be. When the constitution was signed there was a section set aside and dedicated to addressing the ownership of guns for its citizens. The first part of the second amendment states that “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State,” This means that guns were originally intended as a way to protect the country if need be in the absence of the military. But this has evolved into a much larger premise that stands for the American ideal that the country is a “free” place to live and you can theoretically do and achieve anything lawful. This part of the constitution has been around the longest and held the second most worth behind the freedom of speech and religion. The second portion of the second amendment states that “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Giving the the right to bear arms the “second” amendment title shows that guns were very important to past lawmakers and a new law passed restricting the ownership of arms would be a major blow to the integrity and credibility of the nation as a whole and what it stands
