About one sixth of the population in jails and prisons are filled due to marijuana cases. People having drugs in their possession and moving “goods” illegally (which also means smuggling) will automatically be sent to jail and you will get something on your criminal record, you will have to pay up to a thousand dollars on the first offence. This would also make their more space in prisons or jails. They could actually fill the jails or prisons with real crimes and prisoners. Doing this would save the taxpayers more money. It would also relieve the stress on the law enforcement and courts that deal with marijuana cases. Officers will not have to worry about marijuana possession and it would give more time and focus the cops to enforce more serious laws.
Marijuana otherwise known as cannabis should be removed from the law system and adjusted in a way similar to alcohol and tobacco, marijuana has a lot of positive qualities. There are many pros and cons of legalizing marijuana. Some people may be against it, but some might be for it like the people I interview. I asked them if they think marijuana should be legalized one out of four of the people I asked voted that it should be legalized.
