Persuasive Jobs Memo
After interviewing for a seat at Concorde’s Dental Hygiene Program in Dallas, I encountered a problem that I had to solve very unwillingly. Granted my acceptance, my husband and I had to decide if we were going to move or not. With him being in the Army stationed at Fort Hood, he couldn’t possibly move to Dallas. Fortunately, my in-laws whom reside in the Dallas area offered for me to stay with them while I was in the program. I of course accepted that offer. But considering I would have to quit my job if I was accepted, and my husband and I would go down to one income, something had to give in order for us to save money and not break the bank. We concluded that we would have to downsize from our beautiful three bedroom two bathroom home with the most beautiful lawn you have ever seen (due to my husband’s hard work). After only living there for about a year and a half, neither one of us wanted to move, but it had to be done. Hence we started looking for a smaller place. We would find one that we loved, but they had a strict no dog policy. With two dogs over 50 pounds, we couldn’t exactly sneak by that rule. Therefore the house hunting continued. One day, my husband was told by one of his fellow soldiers that he and his family were being moved to Hawaii and that his duplex would be up for rent in May. He said that we wouldn’t have to pay a …show more content…
This is best depicted when “the current position is compared with the desired goal and a series of steps are formulated and taken to close the gap between them” (Wood, Wood, Boyd 2014). This process of problem-solving can be applied to my problem with moving quite easily. My current position would be moving and my desired goal would be getting into Dental Hygiene school. To close the gap between these two, I would have to make plans to move and start packing. Everything happens for a reason and packing those boxes would be worth it in the

The goal of this memo is to persuade high school senior, Micah Jackson to join the marines. Former President Ronald Reagan once said "Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they've made a difference. The Marines don't have that problem." I briefly spoke to Micah over the phone and set up an interview to come in my office to talk about joining the marines. Micah was very skeptical, however, he did tell me about a few things that were important to him. He also told me about some things that he thought he needed for him to be successful in life. He told me that he wanted to be physically fit, he wanted to travel and he wanted to have financial security and benefits.…

    Memo: Employment

Hi Pat, as for the issues of the discharges at the Anderson Cost Club, my thoughts are as follows. The GM at the Anderson Cost is incorrect in saying that we as a company can discharge employees without a reason. There must be a legal reason for the discharge. Now, there are exceptions to the employment at will doctrine. The exceptions are as follows: 1. Bad faith, malicious termination in violation of public policy, 2. Termination in breach of the implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing. 3. Termination of an implied contract term 4. Violation of the promissory estoppel where the employee relied on the employers promise. There are other exceptions that are determined by the individual states concerning warnings issued by employers. If his reasons fall within the exceptions then the employee can lodge a claim for wrongful termination or discharge. Even though the Cost Club is non-union there are laws that we are governed by that were established to protect the employee. Pat, my suggestion is that we hold a conference call and speak with the GM to establish if he had any other reasons other than downsizing his workforce. We should question the GM on any other motives for discharge that he may or may not have had. After the conference call I suggest that we immediately contact our legal team. This is not to insinuate that we are guilty of anything. We should make sure that we cover ourselves and be ready for any legal fall out. Going forward I will make arrangements for some of our legal team to hold some workshops and trainings for our management employees on the guidelines and policies for the particular state that they reside and work in. This is just to ensure that our management team understands and is adhering to the laws that govern us.…

One day I came home from school and saw a moving truck in front of my home. The first thing I did was find my parents to ask them if we were moving. They both said yes, all of us are moving to Fresno California. I was afraid because I had lived in Modesto my entire life and was very comfortable here. I knew my way around Modesto and especially my school where I had many friends and knew the teachers well. Modesto, after all, is my hometown and now I'm transferring to a foreign place. When all of us arrived in Fresno we stayed there a couple of weeks and realized the house had a huge amount of issues such as with leaking water pipes, a broken heater and a variety of other problems. My dad said “Maybe we are not meant to live here”. Finally…

Noam Chomsky is known to be the father of linguistics. He is an American linguist and political critic who created along with Edward S. Herman a set of five filters known as the propaganda model. These five filters discuss and focus on how power along with wealth effect the media and what we as general public receive as our daily news. The five filters are consisted of Size, Ownership, and Profit Orientation of the Mass Media, The Advertising License to Do Business, Sourcing Mass Media News, Flak and the Enforcers, and Anti-Communism. The war was sold to us by the large conglomerates and parent companies because of their personal interest. In this paper I will discuss Chomsky’s five filters and how in Buying the War we can see how the filters are being executed.…
