pharmacists contribute to the world and pharmacy itself. My high school experience was not the only thing that contributed to my decision in pursuing a career in pharmacy; my experience with pharmacists did, in addition to other factors.
Furthermore, in the recent years, my older sister was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder, also known as schizophrenia.
After her diagnosis, she was prescribed with a treatment of medications; I had to act as an interpreter for her, due to several communication barriers. Through the years, I have listened, learned, and interacted with several pharmacists to come up with the perfect treatment plan for my sister. I felt that in a way, when I was translating for my sister and providing her with daily medications, I was acting as a pharmacist, which added to my passion of becoming a pharmacist. I want to be able to counsel and interact with patients, through medicine, the way I did with my sister. Throughout this experience, I became interested in how the medication worked and affected my sister. When on medicated prescriptions, her personality and actions were completely different, compared to when she was not on her prescriptions. I want to be able to understand how it took multiple tries to find a treatment plan that worked for my sister and other schizophrenic patients like
her.
Attending Campbell University will provide me with a better understanding of pharmacy. The education and experience that I will receive from Campbell will help to create a stronger foundation in pharmacy. After I obtain my Doctor of Pharmacy, I will be able to pursue my dream of working with patients through math and science and become an outstanding pharmacist. Without obtaining my Doctor of Pharmacy, I would not be able to practice pharmacy and interact with patients the way I would like to. While I am at Campbell, I will continue to work hard in my studies and improve not only myself, but my understanding of pharmacy and its mission.
