interest into becoming an expert in this area of science and with a liking to understand the complexity of biology and chemistry, I want to study this course.
To have an insight how a pharmacy operates, I have done two weeks of work experience at Beehive pharmacy which included serving customers and assisting with retail tasks. I delivered prescriptions to patients unable to collect them. Through this experience, I gained more awareness of the role pharmacists have in the NHS and learnt that patient involvement is not restricted to doctors and nurses, pharmacists also play an important role in hospitals as clinical pharmacists. It has truly given me a true grasp of the world of pharmacy and the current competition, which I will be facing.
Within the workplace, I have learnt how important and crucial it is, to be able to apply your knowledge, for example within my placement I had to deal with a language barrier, luckily having lived in Germany, speaking German help diminish that language barrier so that the upmost standards of customer service can be offered.
Being trilingual does help my develop my social skills much further, using English with my friends and teachers, using Tamil with my elders, and using German with my close family member who are close to my age, with being able to communicate in many different ways, it has help me to develop my skills as a leader, improve my multi-taking ability and furthering my decision-making skills, which will prove to be useful in university where I will be able to make a positive impact with these …show more content…
skills.
I gained further experience at a community pharmacy where I was able to see the procedures required for the dispensing of prescription items.
I realised just how important communication between the doctor and the pharmacist is, and how one of the main responsibilities of a pharmacist is to make sure that the doctor has prescribed both the correct drug and the correct dose to the patient and more importantly informing the patient how to uses the medicine in the correct way. This experience has taught me the importance of the pharmaceutical company in the health sector.
In my free time I particularly enjoy photography, sketching and tennis. As a result of my keen interest in photography I have developed a definite attention for detail, with these hobbies it allows me to unwind and express myself creatively. This helps me explore the creative side and get away from the academic studies.
I also have learnt to play the electric guitar and have also been teaching myself to play the piano, the practice of a musical instrument has always given me somewhat of a time slot to take a break, and relax. Leadership skills today are very important, and in order to strengthen my leadership skills I have taken part in a challenge called NCS, whereby various activities are set to push and help you evolve as an individual. Learning to play a musical instrument while keeping up with studies can be a challenge, doing this has taught me how important it is to do an action with an ambition and determination,
to achieve to the best of your ability.
Pharmacy allows an inquisitive and open-minded person to flourish. For me, the appeal and excitement lies in how Pharmacy is ever expanding and constantly changing for the better and that its links can be seen in other sectors. Working at the pharmacy during work-experience, displayed how Pharmacists are at the pinnacle of providing primary care and treatment. Drugs save lives every minute; yet with the number of people with illnesses rising, a whole new world of challenges for the future generation is opened; a challenge which I am ready to face.
