* Distance learning can seem daunting at first glance, but once you have taken the time to understand how it works you may find that it can be a better option than the typical brick and mortar school. Distance learning is most recently done via the internet. You can go online and log into the student portal to access your classrooms. This can be done on your own time, whenever you have the availability. Most of your class work is done through asynchronous communication. In other words, your fellow classmates and professors are in different locations and communicate through threaded discussion and email. As part of your course work, you will be required to respond to discussion questions in the main forum. As part of your attendance, you must post at least twice to these discussion questions. In order to make your participation grade you must also respond to other classmates’ posts twice on at least four different days. Your initial response to the discussion question does not count towards your participation grade, so it is very important to keep track of your posts. You will also have required reading to complete and individual assignments due throughout your classes. Your professor will give feedback on your assignments in your individual forum.…

My goal in life after college is to procure a well paying job in the field of my passion; visual design. As an artist in the visual design world, my intention is to be able to work closely with architects; not only making their own business more efficient, but also collaborating with them to find more economical solutions to the common problems that plague the architectural world, such as: energy efficiency and aesthetic appeal. Outside of my professional interests, I pride myself on being a compassionate young man; therefore, by finding a career in my field of choice, I hope to be able to innovate ways to provide a stable house and home for those who cannot provide it for themselves.…
George Saunders convocation speech, “Congratulations, by the way” was delivered at Syracuse University for the class of 2013. In this speech, George aims to convince his audience that we are going to have a lot of regrets in our lives but the one we will regret most is the failures of unkindness. In order to live a full happy life we need to become kinder. Saunders says, “All we want in our hearts is to be less selfish, more aware of what’s actually happening in the present moment, more open, and more loving.” Ethos, pathos, logos, kairos and style are all appeal techniques George Saunders skillfully uses to create a strong, convincing speech.…

Just as the AP course positively impacted me, with the assistance of the Woodford R. Porter Scholarship, I know I can have the same impact on the University of Louisville community. At the University of Louisville, I hope to earn my degree in chemical engineering. I do understand that this degree requires a lot of knowledge about mathematics. Because I was able to overcome difficult academic situations in high schools, I know I am better prepared to deal with these challenges in college. Furthermore, my experiences of struggling in my AP courses have helped me become more sympathetic to my peers. If I see one of my peers struggling, I will provide assistance to them because I know how hard it is to ask for help. By working with my peers, we can ultimately develop a friendship inside and outside the classroom. By developing these relationships, we can learn from one another. While I cannot change my peers’ perspectives about certain issues, I can introduce them to a new perspective, my perspective. By introducing my peers to my perspective, I have helped them become more self-aware as they can do the same for me. In essence, by attending the University of Louisville, I know I can uphold the University’s mission by improving my peers’ lives by sharing my own lived experiences in classrooms. By sharing my narrative and experiences, I know I will create a more diverse…

One of the hardest decisions i have had to make and still can't decide on is what to do after high school. I don't know if i want to go back to school or go straight to work, i never thought it would be this hard to decide on what career i wanted to go into but it's been very difficult. You have to weigh all the options and see what is best for you, It's not all about the money either, you can't pick a field that you hate if you can't stand to go to work it doesn't really matter how much money you make, so you have to try and find something you like to do and pay decent, which can be harder than you think. My plan for the future is to go to work for a year after i graduate then maybe that will help me decide if i want to go back to school for…
