This study will examine the financial performance of the Pointe-a-Pierre Club over the period 2010 to 2013, based on its audited financial statements, and will analyze the profitability of its operations and the trends over this four year period. It will also look at the changes in the membership structure, the external environment for these types of operations and the competition for these services in the region. It is apparent that the revenue attained from members’ subscription fees does not compare to the expenses incurred by the club on a yearly basis and since Petrotrin has ownership over most of the club’s assets, they are unable to raise funds through loans and mortgages from the outside.
Research question: How can the Pointe-a-Pierre members club diversify its income and minimize its quantum of expenditure, in order to reduce dependence on their parent company and at least, break even?

This SWOT analysis, according to Albert Humphrey (2005), would involve analyzing internal and external factors which may affect the club positively and/or negatively.
It is also useful to do market research, to deduce factors which may affect the club’s operations. A PEST analysis describes the political, economical, social and technological factors which are important to take into consideration when attempting to understand the club’s business position and potential and direction for future operations.
Another model which can be used alongside the SWOT and PEST analysis tools that may be helpful in assessing and analysing the strength of the competition and the club’s position amongst similar organizations is Porter’s five forces model (1980). This will be used to create strategies, plans and in making decisions about future investments.
