Pokemon League Monologue
The Pokemon League.

With millions of people gathered, trainers and normals alike, I watched as the new champion was crowned.

“Congratulations, Gray. You have defeated all of us, the Elite Four, and... in such overwhelming fashion, too! With respect to your prodigious skill, I will now confer upon you the title of 「League Champion」!”

“Heh, it wasn’t much. You hardly put a fight, old man.”

“Haha. That’s just proof of how strong you are. So work hard from now on, alright? Become the greatest trainer that Saeria, no, the entire world has ever seen…!”

“Huh? Who cares about that? Hurry up and give me the 「Prize Money」, dammit.”

“Ah, yes. Here you go, 11420 Pokédollars… wait, huh? Gray, wh, where are you going?! You still have to give your speech!”

“Sorry, old man. I have a date with Jenny at 2 o’clock. I can’t afford to be late anymore… so with that, cya.”

Perhaps, it was about time anyway. Out of the 8 Regional Champions, I was undoubtedly the weakest one. For a long time now, I had lost my place amongst the rest… so I was not a true Champion, after all.

That might be so. I may be nothing more than ordinary trainer now. Hardly different than Youngster Joey… ah, wait, it’s Collector Joey now. Huh, to think that he’s still searching for that perfect Ratata at his age... well, that makes two of us.

58 years old. I might be old, but that doesn’t mean shit. When that b*stard is still out there, doing what he loves most… then what reason do I have? Why can’t I do it too? Why can’t I become Champion, again?

Isn’t that right, buddy? Swampert (!Best Starter), if only you were still with me…

—Would you like to see him?

…… Yes, yes I would. I’d do anything to see him again.

—Even if it meant giving up everything? Your dream of becoming the very best (like no one ever was)?

Who? Wh, who the hell are you?

I paused. For awhile, I had been walking aimlessly throughout town… but, this. How did I end up here, of all places?

The match, I repeat, the match was booked before you came down, and got involved in my match before you did the poster, which by the way, I forgot all about the poster, but before you sent those people, and before I put you through a table. It was booked right after you got all upset and threw a little fit because I accidentally interrupted an interview you were doing. You got upset, and played victim, then tried to talk shit about me. I think I have every right to stand up, I repeat stand up for myself. Wait, I’m terrible, I’m a nobody, I’m just someone who doesn’t deserve anything, and I am supposedly pathetic, but yet I earned the right to become first Crazed Champion.…

The lady at the counter was watching the people who were walking around her shop and smiled very nicely each time one of the customers made eye contact with her. A boy came up to the counter and she tousled his hair and said, “Andrew, are you here to buy dragon grass for your father again?” Dragon grass was a herb that had no magical properties as far as anyone could figure out but once you smoked it, it helped with having a good night’s sleep and because of that many actually believed it was magical, in and of itself, no matter what anyone said. The boy nodded.…

" A red haze filled my mind and I slowly relaxed"(P.67) The switchblade felt cold and foreign in my hand, but I clutched it tightly, desperation driving me forward. I didn't want to hurt anyone, and I didn't want to be part of this senseless violence, but there was no turning back now. I saw the fear in Bob's eyes as the blade sliced through the air, brushing over his throat, making a clean, straight line. Time seemed to slow, each heartbeat reverberating in my ears as the world narrowed down to just me and him.…

When the carriage stopped in front of the townhouse, Boudreaux bid us a good night, and informed us, I felt more for me, than Louis, that he was leaving first thing next morning and traveling to his plantation to oversee the planting. We wished him well and parted ways. I felt Boudreaux’s eyes on me as we walked inside. After we went inside, Louis said that he wished he had told Ransom that he was leaving within the week and going back to Barbados; the unrest there was threatening the cane crop. Although I would miss my husband, I breathed a sigh of relief that he would not be home long and that he had not told Boudreau.…

Everyday I would go to class enthusiastic and eager to learn which helped me become pretty good, and then after a few months I approached my yellow belt mark of my TKD journey. At this point, I was 12 years old and met a certain height requirement , so I was required to move up to the adult class. I was really excited to move up finally, but as a yellow belt, we were first introduced to the concept of sparring with gear on which I was not excited about. This was definitely not as glamorous as Jaden Smith had made it in the movie! In this new class I was surrounded by experienced students with higher belts like red to black belts who were the cause of my fear.…
