When a family splits, separates, divorces or a child is born out of wed lock for whatever reason one of the most difficult decisions to make are custody arrangements. Over the years the government has shifted its views from the child’s mother being the best fir for primary custody to “the best interest” of the child. What’s in the best interest of the child consists of both tangible and non-tangible things. The necessities include the ability to provide food, shelter and a a safe environment are important but also the stability of the parent psychologically and their mental health also begins to become part of the importance to the child. The person…

Erin Zammett Ruddy wrote the article “The New Laid-Back Parenting” where she identifies whether a parent can exercise laid-back parenting efficiently in a hover-parenting culture and not take it to the extent of neglect. Practicing laid-back parenting has its challenges where it is tempting for the parent to snap back into an overly involved mode. Some people who do not practice the laid-back parenting method may frown upon it. The author presents an interesting perspective on how the use of a less hovering approach to parenting allows a child to be independent, confident and resourceful individuals in the future.…
After doing this research, I have come to comprehend a lot of things lone parents are going through due to either the policies or being a woman. These are affecting lone parents in many ways, such as, low paying jobs, health, and not able to balance their work place demands and family domain. I discovered that the more single parents and their children age, the more their needs increase. Single parents are often “co-signed” to low paying jobs because of their low level of education and work experience, which I tapped from the previous research paper I did before this. My thought about social policy that surrounds lone parents is the inequality job pay between men and women, and less opportunity given to lone parents seeking employment. This…

Teen Mom has been an innovative show in the reality show industry because it has opened up to society what a teenage mother goes through as she raises her first child. These girls have matured a long way throughout their Childs birth and their upbringing. The show presents four Teenage girls, now eighteen, struggling with money, school, and dating as well as dealing with insecurities, their parents, the father of their children and for a couple and a mother and daughter, domestic violence. While society usually judges girls who get pregnant at any early age, this reality show has bought into terms the reflection of these four women and how they stand in or stand out of the teen pregnancy statistics. Teen Moms huge success and its continuity on MTV where it had premiered for a few almost two seasons have been very controversial to many viewers. The criticism of making paying these girls to let people into their lives and see how they live is…
Unequal Childhoods: Class, Race, and Family Life. I am writing to express my appreciation to you and your assistants for your extensive research and your dedication in determining the lasting effects of unequal childhoods. I feel that this research project was important to answer the question of how unequal childhoods affect a child’s future. Your methodology was thorough and unique. You and your assistants not only interviewed children and their families, but also immersed yourselves in their family and social lives. Your research in examining how middle class, working class and poor families raise their children was very detailed and informative. Every chapter had interesting examples of how the differences affected the child or children involved.…

Just as it sounds, this type of parenting style involves no warmth, support, or guidance. This type of parenting results in children either being well adjusted successful members of the society or rebelling (Boyd & Bee, 2012, p.320-329).…
Everyone is raised differently. Many children are shown warmth and love while others are not. Parenting styles definitely affect a child’s mental and physical development (Huffman, 2012, p. 349). In my experience, my parents used a type of parenting style know as authoritative, and I developed into an independent and strong willed woman (Huffman, 2012, p. 349).…
