Alton Sterling was 37 year old black man from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Just like any other day, he was standing in front of Triple S Food Mart, selling CDs where he had been selling CDs for more than year. After a homeless man called 911, saying that a man in red selling CDs threatened to kill him, the police …show more content…
arrived. They told Sterling to get on the ground, and he didn’t obey their orders. Then the 2 officers started tazing him, pinned him to the ground and tackled him. One of the officers yelled out, “He’s got a gun!”. They told him to move, but he continued struggling. So the other officer pulled out his gun, and shot Alton Sterling many times in his chest and back, and killed him. The two officers are not being charged, because of the law that lets them use deadly force when they feel that their lives are in danger. First of all, they didn't even make it clear why they were confronting him, so of course he is going to be confused and not want to get on the ground. Second of all, it's stupid how they felt their lives were in so much danger they had to shoot him multiple times, even though, his hands wasn't even near the gun. Also how would it be possible for Sterling to pull out his gun while they were on top of him tackling him? It just doesn't make sense. There is no justice for Alton Sterling.
Philando Castile was a 32 year old black man from Falcon Heights, Minnesota. He was driving his car with his fiancé in the passenger seat and his 4 year old daughter in the back. An officer pulled him over, because he had a broken tail light, but he also thought Castile looked like an armed robbery suspect. The officer asked for his ID, and while he was reaching for it, he let the officer know he was armed and had a gun license. The officer then assumed Castile was reaching for his gun,and shot him in the arm 5 times, and killed him. The officer is on paid administrative leave, and still has not been charged. Castile’s fiancé took a video of everything that happened after he was shot and killed. She mentions Castile was very calm and laid back the whole time, including when he told the officer he was armed. So the officer shouldn't have assumed Castile was reaching for his gun. It's ridiculous he is still getting paid, because last time I checked murders get arrested not payed. There is no justice for Philando Castile.
Gregory Gunn was a 58 year old black man from Montgomery, Alabama .
He was walking back home from a card game when an officer confronted him because he thought he looked suspicious. According to the officer Gunn started to run. Then the officer hit him with a baton and shot him 5 times, and killed him. The officer has been charged, and arrested with a bail of $150,000, but the investigation is still going on. Sure, he got arrested, but he still has a good chance of getting out. Gregory Gunn was racially profiled, and killed and he wasn't even armed. He was just an innocent man trying to walk back home to his family. His family has lost a loved one because of a racist officer. There is no justice for Gregory …show more content…
Gunn.
Somebody against “Black lives Matter”, would say these men got what they should have expected, use criminal records as an excuse and also say that “All Lives Matter”.
Somebody that would say these men got what they should have expected is wrong because in a case like Alton Sterling, where he got killed because the police officer found out he was armed and Sterling was struggling on the ground, shooting him was not the right thing to do. That's because his hands weren't even near the gun and he was just fidgeting around like any other person who is getting pinned down and tackled would do. Also using criminal records as an excuse for officers to be right for whatever they did is wrong, because it really doesn't prove anything. Just because somebody has a criminal record, doesn't mean they are always committing a crime. Another thing somebody against “Black Lives Matter” would say is, “All Lives Matter”. Of course, “All Lives Matter”, but black lives are not being treated how they should be for “All “Lives” to matter. We hear about black men and women getting killed by cops so much, we are getting used to it. That's not something we should be getting used to. If “All Lives” really mattered to everybody we wouldn't be having this
issue.
In conclusion, Alton Sterling, Philando Castile and Gregory Gunn and so many other African American men and women have lost their lives to police brutality and racism. Wives and fiancés and have lost their lover. Daughters and sons have lost their father. All their family members have to suffer through the pain of losing a loved one to racism. Police brutality, stereotyping and racism needs to come to an end because “Black Lives Matter!”
