Police Dog Observation

As I said before, I have been a part of Calcasieu Parish Homeschool 4-H Club for six years. My club welcomed, with open arms, new leaders this year; they have improved our meetings tremendously with events, like inviting the Lake Charles Police Department to bring the K-9 Unit to one the meetings. In this area, they do not use german shepherds, instead they use Belgian Malinois, a smaller, very hyperactive dog. Along with showing us the dog, and how he apprehends somebody, they taught us the manner in which they train their dogs, the cost of one ($14,500), and the task they have the ability to perform. The police dogs in this area are dual purpose, meaning they not only can apprehend somebody, they can also find drugs and track people.
