Police Shadowing Reflection
I shadowed at the Police Department in the IT Department as a IT Support Analyst. I had my shadow on Friday, December 02, 2016 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM and I shadowed with Brian Sherman. The day started off with Brian and I introducing ourselves. He informed me about him starting a year long project with him and his co-workers. They will be working to update and change the communication machines in the Police Cars such as their radios and other little updates throughout the vehicle. He then said I would have the opportunity to sit in a meeting with him and 3 other of his co-workers. They just discussed what they would be doing when they start the project and what they would need. These people that I met seemed like really fun people to work with and also easy to work with. We then took a tour of the entire department. We first went to the control room where everything is controlled through buttons and wires. This was very cool and interesting. He showed me what each cord and button did. We then went down to the garage and toured the cars. He showed me around the bomb squad truck and other police cars. This was very cool because I had never sat in a police car let alone in the drivers seat. We then went to where they fix the police cars and there was a car with everything torn out except the outside which was cool. We then went to other places like where they keep the drug dogs and where the head police officers office is. My favorite part was seeing where they interrogate criminals. They showed me that there are cameras all over in there to watch them. He told me a story about a guy who went …show more content…
He was a nice and fun guy and I learned a lot about IT. This has helped in my decision for what I want to be when I grow up. This is a very good program for any student wanting to know more about what they want to be or a certain job they have in mind. I might also do another job shadow just to learn about other jobs I

He introduced me to some of his fellow officers. There are 14 officers, including the chief, all of whom are male (though they are hoping for more female recruits, they never seem to get any). He showed me around the station, showing me the kitchen area (fully stocked), the filing room, their office area, and the two jail cells. At 8:16 we departed from he station to begin patrol around Taneytown. Traveling through the town, we received several friendly waves, though the occasional car would flash their headlights at us. The overall reaction of the citizens to the police was positive, especially from where the businesses were. The area that the station receives the most calls from is Carnival Road, where there are small, single family houses. Many of these houses are unfortunately not well maintained, though there are still a handful of houses that were well cared…

On Friday March 10th, I participated in a Police ride along at the University of Maryland. I was placed with Officer M. Adornetto during the hours of 10:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Officer Adornetto took me around College Park and showed me what his typical night on the job is like in the beat that he is assigned to. Although the night was slow because of spring break, we still had a lot of interesting calls that we encountered that evening. As I observed officer Adornetto throughout Friday night I learned much more about what a police officer has to deal with every day of their lives.…

The program gave me the informational tools I needed to figure out what I am best at. I exuded leadership qualities, the willingness to always want to help someone, and determination for not only myself, but for another human being. I explored different avenues to approach when working with someone else. No one person shares the same moral values and goals as the next person. Over the years, it became exceedingly more important to me that I figured out how to blend my flamboyant personality with someone who may share this same characteristic.…

I had a really good time socializing with them, and laughing at the stories they told. I rode with detective Cory today, we went to talk to a suspect. Surprisingly the suspect was home and decided to talk to us, and after hearing his story, it was clear that he did not want anything to do with the altercation that was going on, so he agreed to stay away and if anything starts to happen again he will contact the detective. While we were out and about there was a call that came in on the radio, so we went to check it out. I was able to watch the detective calm down the victim and ask her to tell him what happened. She explained the situation and once the police officers arrived to the seen the detective told them the situation, so the police officers then talked to the victims. We stayed there for about 20 minutes then we headed back to the office. I would end the day by looking at street camera videos, because the detective was trying to find a fight that happened at the…

Reflection allows an individual to identify the reasons or purpose of understanding the outcome of a particular situation in depth in term of emotions on thought and feeling on the topic area. In addition, Reflection is something that we do implicitly as part of being human, underpinning our identities through a process of negotiation between our sense of self and our experiences of others (Demetriou, 2000, p.210). Therefore, I have implemented this quote in my professional and personal goals I wanted and have achieved thought-out the process of the module. Deciding on the perfect date and time for the shadowing experience was challenging. I wanted to go with my “BFF” that had been assigned in class but being that one person never replied and we had to work around our work schedules it seemed like we would never get to visit. So, I decided to just schedule the time that was best for me and let my “BFFs” know. I emailed Lieutenant Sligh and set up a date. Although his initial email confused me because he said that he got off at 4 but we could still come. He did not give any specific instructions so needless to say, I did a lot of running back and forth to my car once I arrived.…

In the Law Enforcement career field, ensuring that one’s uniform and equipment is clean and well maintained is paramount. The public only gets a moment to get an idea of who that officer is and how they carry themselves. As such, an officer’s appearance is the best indicator of an officer’s character and level of professionalism. If an officers’ boots, equipment, or uniform is dirty it reflects poorly on the officer because it can give off the impression that they are not ready for work. It can also show on the agency and fellow officers.…

The shadowing clinic was a good experience, I learned a few good pointers on what to do and what not to do. At the beginning when I arrived at the clinic, it was very stressful. I was going back and forth on each side of the clinic to find my group number and when I asked a few students and instructors, they didn’t know where the groups where placed themselves. It was very frustrating but I found my group in the end. In the group I stayed with one DH2. The first DH2 I stayed with, she showed me how she sort out her stuff in her area, what she had to write in the ROA. Later she showed me how she picks up her client at the WAVE clinic and how to interact with them.…
