Roy was born on October 27, 1923 in Manhattan, New York. He attended school at New York’s Dwight school and soon graduated in 1940. He soon enrolled in at Ohio State University. While his time at the university, he was hired to be an art instructor. After years of being at Ohio State, Roy finally received his Master of Fine Arts degree. Just like Andy Warhol, Roy was also popular in the new art movement. Roy expressed pop art through parody. Comic strips were his main focus during that time. He created hard-edged, precise compositions while it parodied a lot in a tongue-in-cheek manner. Roy thought of pop art as non american, but as industrial painting.
