I am going to write this assignment by referring to the points generated from the online tests, some academic journals and something I know about myself. Before I start, let me tell you some of my background. I am 27 years old now. I am working in a bank as a relationship manager in the personal finance department. I setup my own restaurant last year in Vietnam. I worked for 6 years since graduation, which it may seem not so experienced when comparing to other students studying this MBA program.

According to the tests I have done on Global Career Website, I am good at interpersonal skills, but deep inside, I know I am quite an introverted person. I am also more logical than focus on feeling. I am a perceiving person rather than judging. I seldom challenge other people, because I can understand their logic behind and I can easily adapt to the situation. I am also a team player when I am requested to be. On the other hand, I have weak competencies on managing relationships with manager, inexperience in managing organizational change and in man management. My strength I believe is something I do on a daily basis. I gradually increase my strengths by doing my daily work. At the same time, I am interested in something extra than my daily job. However, to a greater extent, I think I have to be great and be competent in order to complete my job properly. Although my job as a sales role mainly focus on people oriented skill, I know I am not only limited to those relationship building skills. I want to develop myself as a well rounded person, and be a good manager in the future. In those personal competencies test I did, l do believe the intrinsic qualities such as integrity, loyalty and creativity are as important as business development skills, selling and interpersonal skills. I feel good about my strengths because that’s what leads me do well in my job. I also feel good because I think I know what I want to achieve in the future. Perhaps, the untested areas I have

Understanding how people choose their work and educational environments and the process that leads to satisfaction in these environments is critical to optimizing productivity and self – actualization. A perspicuous theory of career choice is Holland’s (1992) theory of person-environment fit. Essentially this theory postulates six personality types (realistic [R], investigative [I], artistic [A], social [S], enterprising [E], and conventional [C]) and six environments (with the same descriptors R, I, A, S, E, and C). According to Holland, the relationships among six personality…

Of the six personality types having a link with career satisfaction, which are defined by psychologist John Holland in his Personality-type Theory (Witt/Mossler 2010), I believe two most closely relate to me, those being the Social and Enterprising personality types. While the PSY202 textbook provides a very basic explanation of Holland’s theory, I found that by taking the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator test a few years ago I had a better understanding of my own personality type (Idealist-Teacher). Therefore a review of Table 2.1 John Holland’s Personality Types utterly confirms that my choice of careers in public relations, education and as manager of an Eco-tourist outfitting operation were right on target. I chose, and continue to choose, a career path that gives me intense personal satisfaction. I enjoy working with people in a cooperative manner, utilizing my energy to create a business, and leading others to see life for its possibilities.…

This assignment links very clearly with Social Cognitive Career Theory (SCCT). SCCT details how career and academic interests are established, how career choices are developed, and how these career choices revolve into action. This is achieved through a focus on several cognitive-person variables such as self-efficacy and outcome expectations and on how these variables interact with other aspects of the person and his or her environment such as gender, ethnicity and barriers to help shape the course of their career development. (Lent, et al., 2000) (Gibbons & Shoffner, 2004) (Lent, et al., 1994) Self-efficacy refers to the beliefs people have about their ability to successfully…
