Pre-Med Magnet Reflection
Throughout my years in high school of being within the Pre-Med Magnet, the most obvious preparation, this program has given me was medical exposure. But specifically, junior year, although very rigorous, it has given me an exposure to how a college class works, and clinicals work. Studying for the class and writing the preps, the posts, the pathos, I believe helped prepare me for the work of a college class. My ability to balance Med and all other classes, helped me prepare to balance my medical classes in college and my other non-medical classes, since I plan to have both a major and a minor. Alongside balancing workloads, the Pre-Medical Magnet has helped me to prepare for the content and was it expected when writing papers. As a future college student, I learned from the magnet, that the papers that I write should be very detailed, and organized, and always be …show more content…
So the best way to study for me consists of prior reading, making an outline, taking notes within class, or adding on to notes, and then studying through reading and repetition. To clarify, I read over the chapters, previous to the lesson, and then create an outline. When I come to class, I add on to my notes, by separately writing down notes or simply writing directly into my notes. After the lesson I rewrite my notes and incorporate the new information, and then through rewriting the lesson I memorize through reading and repetition. Another factor about studying I learned from the magnet, is constant revision every day is very beneficial to memorizing the concepts of the chapters, and can help you with studying and tests. Clinical experience within the Medical Magnet, has helped me with exposure to clinical experience within college, although clinicals for me will come very late in my educational process, it’s still beneficial to me that I had an outlook on clinicals and what occurs and how I should behave and what I should do, during

In order to attend a medical school, the student must complete a four year bachelor’s degree prior to submitting an application. Most pre med students tend to major in a science since medical school is focused on science. ”Majoring in the biological sciences is desirable because not only is it interesting, it is also very convenient since most biological science majors have already incorporated all the medical school prerequisites”(Edward Chang). But student can also major in english, political science or business but it won’t help…

When people hear “pre-medicine,” they think of majors like biology, chemistry, biomedical engineering, health sciences, and other popular majors. I chose chemistry as my major, not only because I wanted to stand out not blend in, but also because I am aware of my strengths and weaknesses. I have always performed better in chemistry than in biology. I prefer challenges and I love the way chemistry challenges me. I am going into freshmen year with the knowledge of the level of difficulty that my major encompasses. I need to remain focused and work hard in order to succeed and achieve a solid gap of at least 3.6 for admission to medical school.…

The bulk of my ornithology class was actually following lecture notes from a college professor. Dan Tallman posted almost 120 pages of lecture notes broken into sections. I grouped these sections into manageable topics that all seemed related and proceeded to summarize everything that I was learning in 28 parts. This alone was a painstaking process; it was like reading a textbook and pulling out the facts from each page. If I ran across unfamiliar vocabulary or concepts, I looked them up until I understood them (unlike some students… erm… that just skip the stuff they don’t know and move on just to get the assignment done).…

Mark up the margins of your text with WORDS. These are ideas that occur to you, notes about things that seem important to you, reminders of how issues in a text may connect with class discussion or course themes. This kind of interaction keeps you conscious of the reason you are reading and the purposes your instructor has in mind. Later in the term, when you are reviewing for a test or project, your margin notes may become useful memory triggers. Make a list of your ideas, write phrases or complete sentences—it is up to you! Just interact with the text by writing and marking it up! (Post-it notes work too!)…

One way you may want to take notes is within a way that is systematic and becomes beneficial for exams, projects quizzes, etc. make sure to always date, and place the name of the class, Unit, Chapter, as well as titles and subtitles in your notes that are being discussed, and shown. Write down terms, definition’s, key points, examples, graphs, and diagrams; this will come in handy for review on/for tests, quizzes, projects, and studying later on. Do not write word from word as I do. Summarize discussions your professor is explaining in your own words except for terms and items mentioned…

One of the most difficult class activities for me is studying for my history tests. There is just so much information to remember on each person, place, and event. Also, I usually find all my reading assignments even difficult because reading has never been a strong point for me. One of the ways I approach these difficult activities and/or assignments is by making outlines and note cards. I have found that I am more of a visual learner so by doing this helps me to retain all the information that I am studying.…
