It represents the inner dynamic of what creates motivation for one’s personality. This perceptional field is conceded with ‘the self.’ The self is an expression of one’s personality that has control over her own life. It is also able to reorganise her perceptual field. Rodgers suggest that even though personality is not fixed and is vulnerable to change, but the vein can be from a standing point which is congruent or incongruent in the perceptual field and the self. Everyone live in a subjective world however you can only know your own world yourself. This then determines your behaviour, it is private reality. This private reality will co-operate to objective reality in different degrees. The self actualising tendency will determine your private reality or subjective world. It is important to note that when an experience enters awareness that it becomes part of your subjective world or phenomenological field.
The ‘self’ has been mentioned continuously above and will continue to do so thus before this essay proceeds this concept needs to be defined.
