Prejudice And Racism Essay

In the past years, our world has experienced racist remarks and reactions from those remarks. If you ask anyone across the world if racist is a part of their country, I’m sure they will say yes. In Mr. Hyman article “Prejudice, Racism, and Knowledge”, he opens to say that he was meeting up with some friends to come back to the United States with him. Little did they know they were not going to enter the US as quickly as they would have thought. They had to clear customs in Canada just to enter into the United States all because he was with German friends. Overall, he was ok with the treatment somewhat, but the family of nine that were in front of him didn’t get that same treatment because they were Middle Eastern descent. In other words, they
Unfortuntly, Mr. Hyman didn’t hear all the conversation, but agents finally let the family enter into the United States. I do understand that we need to take precautions since 9-11, but that had to be uncomfortable for the family to go through that. As you can see they were clearly profiled to seem as if they were probably acting terriost. In his article, he went on to say there is a major difference in racism and prejudice. He explains that prejudice is all part of human nature. In other words, if people start assuming things from what they see and hear from others or even if your alone, then it’s possible to prejudge someone. He gave a great example of a person in a hoodie could be looked at as a black person all because blacks are seen in hoodies more than whites or any other culture. Mr. Hyman brought up another good example talking about the ban the box law. This law gives the right to anyone going out for a job not to be asked if they were in jail or not. In my opinion, what difference does it make if someone has been to jail or not. You can hire any person to help run your company but it could take that one person to get your company over the top and make the company
