Japan technically started it when they bombed Pearl Harbour. They were the aggressor and President Truman couldn't just ignore this threat to his nation. So it was only fair to bomb them back in return (basically revenge). They basically provoked Presiedent Truman to do it, so yes, it was the best option at the time. We can't just let Japan bomb us and not do anything about it or else they'll mistake us for a weak pushover country. and Japan avoid war, president Trumans' decision prevented what could have been a terrible war, full of agony and depression. He prevented something that could've been another total war. So in the end it was for the best of his citizens emotional, psychological, and physical health. No one wanted to go through the struggle of rationing and factory work again. Not to mention the cost of war, which President Truman smartly avoided, for the greater good, therefore preventing the U.S. from wasting another $200+ billion on war. Let's also look on the fact that, even if we did engage in war, what would have happened if we lost?!? It could've wrecked havoc and we could've lost a lot of land and money. So, overall President Truman did a great job as president by choosing the better, more preferable
