Warm-ups prepare the body for participation in physical activity. It increases the muscle temperature as the increased blood flow and oxygen to active muscles allow them to contract quicker. Properly warming up can increase an athletes overall body temperature, activating the sweating process to allow the body to cool efficiently as well as increasing muscle elasticity, reducing the risk of sprains and strains. During a warm-up, athletes are able to mentally prepare themselves for the event or training. As the metro under 12’s cricket team only arrived 20 minutes before the scheduled start of play, they may not have efficiently warmed up, especially in thirty degree heat, creating tightness in the muscles and ligaments and increasing the chance of injury.
