The problem of child soldiers nowadays has attracted public attention because we are coping with human laws and rights laws more often than we have in the past. Children comprise a substantial proportion of armed groups. It is generally agreed that the presence of children in armed conflicts is not tolerated in a civilized society.
The Geneva Conventions in 1949 were one of the first to give children rights and to bring laws to them. Yet the term “child soldier” was not mentioned in the Conventions.
