Problem and Situation Assignment
College can be hard, and it becomes even harder when you have very little to no money to help pay for the experience. This became my problem this year. Money is tight and good paying jobs are hard to find. Even financial assistance is getting hard to come by. My purpose in this situation to find a way to be able to pay for college while staying out of debt and continuing to stay focused on my school work. In other words, I am trying to find a way to stay in college, keep working, and maintain good credit all while continuing to pay my bills. My purpose is justifiable and a fair way of thinking. I know that it is my responsibility and I don’t blame anyone else for me not having money. I know that I can take care of the things I need to once a solution to my money issue is found. The key question I have to ask myself when I think about this issue is simple: How can I pay for college? In other words, how do I get the money I need to stay in college without falling into debt, but continuing to work? There are several questions that arise when thinking about this topic:
1. How can I pay for college?
2. Who can help me pay for college?
3. How do I get off financial aid probation?
4. Can I get the V.A. benefits back?
5. Will a credit card help?
6. Can I work more hours?
7. Is it possible to make enough money as a bum to pay for college?
8. Is stealing a good choice?
9. Can I get a scholarship?
10. Are there any scholarships specifically for teachers?
11. Can I find any scholarships that are specific to me as an individual?
12. Are student loans a good choice?
13. Are there any reliable grants as an option?
14. Should I take even more time off college?
15. Can I sell anything worth money?
16. Could I start selling my custom-made jewelry on Esty?
17. Who can I go to, to answer my questions?
18. Will a loan put me into debt?
19. Will my boyfriend, Xavier, help me?
20.

The memorandum from Salvador Monella to the Board of Directors addresses the rising costs of employee healthcare benefits at Penn-Mart. His communication includes an explanation of his purpose in addressing the healthcare costs, findings regarding Penn-Mart’s benefits costs, a recommended program to implement for cost reduction, and a discussion containing support for their recommendation. While some business people may be tempted to simply accept the information presented in Mr. Monella’s memorandum, it is my opinion, after reading Browne and Keeley’s Asking the Right Questions (2012), that adopting a critical thinking approach is the most effective way to evaluate the document.…

I know I am not the only person that has had a hard time getting into school, or understanding how. Now that I’m in it, I feel lots better but of course it has been a very hard time coming from a 9-5 job and then straight to another job to pay the bills. First off, I learned that it is not free. No matter how many ads and people I had spoken to telling me “oh yeah, school is free”. It certainly has not been for me at least. I had a few small grants but nothing that was enough to help out with my living costs/ tuition/ books, thus leaving me to the device of taking out student loans. Since then I have been seeking scholarships but have not had the greatest luck. With this information that I have provided, I have now taken one loan out and this is my first loan. I still work two jobs picking up shifts at a bar on a weekend and receiving a student loan. I shouldn’t have to take a loan out that I am going to pay back years from now. I am having to work two jobs and do two classes a semester which to get to any or the degree that I want, will take years thus leaving me with a huge amount of debt I owe. Now, I am still lost just finding my own balance of work and…

“It’s just extremely disappointing and aggravating to have paid all that money and have nothing to show for it other than debt.” proclaimed Michelle Polyakov, an English graduate from Drake University. Polyakov obviously feels that college is not worth the cost and that all someone has to show for the education is debt. College has been deemed, by some, that it is not worth the cost because of the financial loss, the future job security, and the need for “blue collar” jobs. Finances, job security, and the need for manual laborers are all major factors in the debate of college and its cost. The reason being is because not all people are meant to go to college, or their situation just isn’t ideal. College is a privilege, and not every job requires you to have a higher form of learning, but most do. By viewing the debt of a student after graduation, the job security of graduates, and the need for manual laborers, one can infer that college is not worth the cost.…

Starting at eight years old, I always envisioned attending college and obtaining a degree that would allow me to accomplish what I want in life. Over time, I have faced many obstacles such as dyslexia, emotional trauma, and family challenges. All through these challenges, I never let anything deter me from my course of attending college. Despite being able to overcome obstacles, I have come to realize there are things in life that I have little to no control over. Now that I have had time to experience the joys, hard work, and endless opportunities that come with being a college student, I have come too far to let anything stop me from finishing this chapter of my life. In combination with my scholarships and work-study, as a college student with little money I rely partly on my parents to finance my education. Although my parents will continue to do all they can to help finance my education, their income stability is not guaranteed, my family…
