11.a. Speaker: The speaker is John Proctor, who is a local farmer and the husband of Elizabeth Proctor.…
Forgiving yourself and not just others, can bring you peace. I believe john proctor could not forgive himself, which caused him to be prideful. Though Proctor had many flaws, I still consider he is the tragic hero of the play.…
Proctor, we know is not the greatest puritan , and Cheer in the courtroom mentions this up. Cheever tells Danforth, “He plow on Sunday sir” Proctor misses church to plow, which obviously is a sin to miss church, and just for plowing. This is one of many other sins Proctors sins. Proctor has no justice, not getting what he deserves isn't fair to others. Cheever also says, “ Excellency, does it not strike upon you that so many of these women have lived so long with such upright reputation.” Danforth is guilty and not realizing that the girls have been faking it this whole time. He is not getting his justice he deserves for the innocent lives.…
“Truth and Honesty is the oldest and most powerful of all of the human values” (Gary King). Gary King, professor at Harvard University, emphasizes that truth and honesty are an engrained values of human kind. These values are practiced by John Proctor and John Reverend Hale in The Crucible, and by Angela and Sister Gaudentia in article - It’s 2013, And They’re Burning ‘Witches’. John Proctor and Angela do not confess and be honest and truthful. Mr. Hale and Sister Gaudentia help the innocent, accused people against society and they believe that as their responsibility. Demonstrated through The Crucible and It’s 2013, And They’re Burning ‘Witches’, when society pressures the individual to change, an individual maintains his or her own values by being honest, truthful and understand individual’s own responsibility.…
I justify that the protagonist is John Proctor, the “Manly man” who had an affair on his wife and instead of coming clean he produces a scary moment in Salem’s history. Abigail Williams is the girl which has had John, after the affair she is driven by a crazy mind to get with John, she resorts to witchcraft and gives her own blood to give John’s wife to be with John. When John finds out about the attempt on his wife’s life, that his character turns into the good, loving husband, the town thinks he is, instead of the dishonest and unloyal husband his wife knows him to be. I say John is the protagonist because, the whole story seems to revolve around him. Finally I think the most important part of the play is when John said, “God is dead!!” this is greatly noticed by me and it takes guts to speak these things about God, in a Godly village.…
Dear Diary:Today I am very upset with myself because my wife Elizabeth has found out about my affair with Abigail. She was so mad, that she promptly dismissed Abigail from working at our home. Now Mary Warren works for us, but I have to constantly remind her that she cannot leave our house. I told her that I would whip her if she does not obey my rules.…
The Crucible by Arthur Miller is play take place in Salem during 1692. A truly horrific time to be alive. The Witch Trials corrupted everybody, people turned on family and friends. Among those people was John Proctor and Abigail Williams. Their relationship went from a simple infidelity case to a murderous affair.…
Although John Proctor is motivation, he feels bashful for cheating on his wife by having an affair with Abigail Williams. However, Abigail is determined that John is going to leave his wife to be with her. Abigail had told him that he is a strong man with a sickly wife; “You’ll speak nothin’ of Elizabeth.” John protects his wife because he loves her not Abigail. At this point he feels guilty because of what he did. Abigail says that Elizabeth is blackening her name, in the village. John knows that his…
In the play The Crucible by Arthur Miller, a hysteria of witchcraft that sweeps across Massachusetts changes the citizens of Salem, transforming some into monsters and helping others to realize their mistakes. Miller’s description of the character John Proctor at the start of The Crucible seems to describe another person as his change becomes more prevalent throughout the play. Proctor is at first consumed with guilt and despair, but he comes to find pride in his name, and he will hold on to the meaning he has finally found in his life for the short time he can.…
The choice between life and honor is often times be a difficult choice for people. Traditional Japanese custom teaches to take one’s life in order to preserve your honor. However, man’s will to live will compel him to do anything, including lying in order to protect their own life. There’s no doubt John Proctor had that will to live however, in the end he chose death and I disagree with his decision. He should have lied because, his name is already blackened due to his affair with Abigail, his wife is pregnant and he could eventually redeem his name by living an honest and true life.…
As he, among others, believed “the bewitched” and convicted many individuals in a strikingly similar yet different manner that they did. However, Danforth is not a fabulist, he may be portrayed in The crucible as a wicked or cruel man but he is a daresay a honest one who believed that he was acting as if he was guided by God. He brought all of the people who declared the good charachter of Martha, Elizabeth, and Rebecca before the church even after Francis had promised that no harm would come to the people associated with the declaration. Yet, Danforth did listen to the evidence that Proctor presented in court, the evidence being that Abigail and the rest were fabricating the whole situation about being possessed. Proctor openly admits about his infedility to the court, back then since it was a puritan village; this would’ve been considered a crime and critically damaged Proctor’s reputation. But, Danforth realizes that this might become a problem and wonders if its a lie to save goody Proctor, he then calls her into the room and tries to debunk the underlying matter.Danforth questioned her” Did your husband commit the act of lechery? Goody Proctor responded with a definitive but quiet ” no”; Since, Goody Proctor did not confess to save her husband’s reputation, she along…
Ladies and gentleman of the jury, you have been hearing for days that my client is the sole cause of the death of these innocent people. I acknowledge the fact that my client had an explicit role in these horrific events, and nothing can bring their innocent souls back. What you have been hearing from the opposing attorney is that Abigail is both a witch and maliciously planned the accusations of other people of witchcraft; however that is not true. Abigail Williams should not shoulder all of the blame for this string of tragedies. In fact, Abigail should be exonerated and found innocent, As a result of Abigail’s tragic childhood and manipulative relationship with John Proctor, her mind was corrupted into such an altered state that she…
The Cruciable by Arthur Miller portrays a Puritan society that at the time is unsteady. In common Puritan society, witchcraft is highly looked down upon and religion means everything to them. The play takes place in Salem, Ma, where young girls are accusing specific people of being witches, in order to get what they want. John Procter has an affair with Abigal, Abigal doesnt like Procter’s wife, Elizabeth, so she accuses her of witchcraft. Miller portrays John Procter as respectful, honest, and caring, this causes the reader to feel that procter is a good and trustworthy man.…
Elizabeth's positive qualities are also her negative ones. She is a virtuous woman who is steadfast and true. These traits also make her a bit of a cold fish. When we first meet her, she's especially cold and fishy. She's got good reason to be, though, because her husband has recently had an affair with their housekeeper, Abigail Williams.…
In the 1953 play The Crucible by Arthur Miller, the main protagonist, John Proctor allows the audience to create an emotion of sympathy towards him. In the play John Proctor is the husband of Elizabeth Proctor, he is a farmer, and a father of three boys. He was also accused of witchcraft like many individuals who lived in the town of Salem. Proctor did not attend church, because of Reverend Parris. Parris is the minister of Salem, who preaches about wealth, “…and for twenty week he preach nothin’ but golden candlesticks until he had them”. (Act Two, pg. 69) John had no importance for wealth, but rather of God, it was one of the reasons he stopped attending church. The other was to avoid Abigail Williams. John committed adultery with Abigail,…
