Nevertheless, professional athletes do play an important role in society as well. Football is America’s favorite sport. Many exhausted Americans come home after work seeking some sort of entertainment to lift their spirits and relax their minds after an eventful day. For some, sitting down to catch the game is one of the quickest ways to find enjoyment. The athletes on the field provide pleasure and excitement to their viewers. Some professional athletes even go out of their way to give a percentage of their income to charities to help those in need. These factors are what make athletes valuable. Professional athletes should continue to be respected and appreciated for their dedication to their performance and entertainment of the world. They should continue to be looked up to for their hard work. However, even they would not be where they are today if they didn’t have someone to teach them the game and to inform them on how to be successful. They deserve to make more than the ones that they have taught and supported as a token of the world’s gratitude toward

Well except for the fact that players don’t get paid for their labor. If you look at it players should see at least little part of whatever money they generate, for example Texas A&M start quarterback Jonny Manzel is said to be responsible for close to 2.5 million dollars in revenue generated for the school alone. Because of TV, merchandise, tickets sales and him just playing there Texas A&M gets that much extra money. He doesn’t get anything from it, in fact most college athletes are struggling money wise while on campus. Coaches on the other hand, since players can’t get paid the coaches make 6 and sometimes 7 figures. John Kalipary, the head coach at Kentucky University has a 4 million dollar salary. This just isn’t fair to the student athlete and I think they should have some sort of compensation for all that they…

For years the question, “Should college athletes be paid?” has appeared in the debatable world. College athletes across the nation have argued that they deserve compensation for the particular sport in which they participate in. “We deserve a check for what we do,” Southern Miss football player, Urell Johnson stated. “Win or lose, our sport is our job. We work all day, every day. If you think about it, the athletic department brings in the most revenue to the university.” Non-athletes, such as students (like myself) and faculty, have disagreed with the idea of reimbursing athletes who are still in college. Paying college athletes would be absurd, being that it would be too expensive, produce avaricious athletes, and most of all, it would be injustice to every other young adult attending college.…

Texas universities like Texas State are recognized through their sport rankings and their star athletes’ performance on the field. The role athletes play in the production of profit from merchandise, ticket sales, and advertising has created the question: Should athletes get paid? Based out of “Student athletes deserve payment in multimillion-dollar industry”, published in the University Star, as the main text describes the reasons why athletes should be paid. The editorial staff argues about the profit the NCAA makes, how athletic scholarships work, and how some athletes come from low income families with the hopes of building better lives for themselves and their families. Imagine this: you are in the military force, you risk your life on a day-to-day basis for our country's freedom. If you survive fighting, you sleep on an uncomfortable, rock hard bed and eat nauseating food. You work your tail off, yet you actually make less than the average American does yearly. Now, take into perspective, perhaps a professional boxer: they may risk their lives, but it's for our entertainment, not for our safety. When they are done wrestling, they go back to their five star hotels and eat gourmet food. They train, and yes, they may have worked hard to get to where they are, but they're out here making millions per fight, which is way more than what the average American makes. Look closer, should an entertainer really get paid such a profound amount for one fight, rather than those who work to…

Even though college athletes receive many luxuries they still have to make there own living and support themselves. College athlete salary has been a controversial issue for many years. Many debate that they do not need a salary and that all they need is the scholarship that they were given to get into the school. At the same time people argue that they need compensation for putting their bodies and careers on the line, they bring in lots of profit for the school, and need money moving forward in their professional career and in life after college. Kevin Ware, guard for the 2013 NCAA men’s basketball national champion Louisville Cardinals, is a prime example of athletes putting their bodies and potentially their careers on the line for their school. In the elite eight round of the NCAA tournament against the No. 2 ranked Duke, with Louisville up by one point with Duke in possession of the ball, one of the Duke players attempts a three point shot and Ware jumps to block it and lands awkwardly.…

On the other hand, Roberto Hinojosa, a high school math teacher, disagrees with that statement. Roberto believes professional athletes are overpaid as compared to the salaries of public service workers, such as police officers, fire fighters, and teachers. Individuals such as these lay their lives on the line daily, and teachers motivate students towards higher learning as well as guiding willing students towards helping themselves to acquire the knowledge they need to know to become productive adults. All of these public servants are paid a great deal less, over the life span of their career. Salaries for a teacher average $50,950 a year, a police officer, $50, 512 per year, and a lead firefighter, $57,000 per year, as compared to a football player earning $32.4 million per year.…
