Progressivism DBQ
Dear Aunt Bessie,
The task that I have accepted from you, whom I love greatly, is in good hands. I appreciate the money that you have given to me and promise that it will be respectfully shared. Your wish being to give the money to three Progressive reforms in a very specific way. You can trust me in the fact that it will be done in the best way possible with lots of thought. I was surprised to learn about your passion to do good for others. I would be honored to fulfill your wish of giving away one million dollars. Through our discussions, you have made me realize there is another America that people do not like to talk about. We talked about the meat packing plant, child labor, and women’s rights.
After much thought, I have decided to give $600,000 to the meat packing plant,
$300,000 to child labor, and $100,000 to women’s rights.
I have decided to give $600,000 to the meat packing plant. According to
Document D, there was “meat that had tumbled out on the floor, in the dirt and sawdust, where the workers had tramped and spit” (Doc D). It also states that “thousands of rats would race about” on the pile of dirty meat, and there would be “handfuls of the dried dung of rats” (Doc D). This kind of disgusting work ethic had many people sick and dying. To get rid of the rats, the packers would put “poisoned bread out for them”, and

then after they would die, the dead rats, the poisoned bread, and the meat would all be pushed into the hoppers together (Doc D). It is disheartening that the workers of this industry did not care about this dirty contamination. These are just some of the reasons that I have made my decision to give the most amount of money to this industry in hopes that they will make it into a respectable operation. With this money, they would be able to rebuild a new company making it more reliable and cleaner for the people.
The efforts

The data for the experiment was to be collected from autopsies of the men, and they were thus deliberately left to degenerate under the ravages of tertiary syphilis-which can include tumors, heart disease, paralysis, blindness, insanity, and death. In this experiment, human beings were being used as laboratory animals. The true nature of the experiment had to be kept from the subjects to ensure their cooperation. The sharecroppers’ grossly disadvantaged lot in life made them easy to manipulate. Pleased at the prospect of free medical care- almost none of them had seen a doctor before-these men unsophisticated and…

It was dark in the Rye when Krieger arrived and he took a lazy lap around the hunting ground. As he swooped and dove and rolled he thought of the delicious meals he would make next week. Rotisserie human with Hoisin Baste, human breast with clementine’s and Tuscan Kale, roasted human legs in a red wine sauce. Krieger’s first prey was a human with a round chin. In one hand the human carried a gun and in the other he…

    Hunter's Run-On Sentences

    • 455 Words
    • 2 Pages

As expected, food becomes a motif in this short story and one Hunter begins to use mostly in her run-on sentences. And as the story continues, it’s important to note that this pattern of several sentence paragraphs and paragraphs made up of run-on sentences continues. On page 28, right after a paragraph with several clear sentences, Hunter uses an abundance of nouns and adjectives in run-on sentences. One part of the section reads, “ Could I pick up some laundry detergent he asks, could I also pick up some beer, something for dinner, dessert, breakfast, lunch for the rest of the week, juice.” The protagonist is on the phone with her husband and it is interesting to look at how she decides to tell readers what she has heard.…

Bloated Bellies, rotten hooves, swollen, puffy, puss covered eyes. These are some of the conditions of the animals from Richard Medeiros’ farm. Westport, Massachusetts July 2016 Richard Medeiros was captured along with twenty-seven other people abusing animals. At the time of the crime Richard Medeiros was at age of 83. Richard was healthy for his age and a father of four. While there was nothing wrong with Medeiros mentally, he had been involved in animal crime many times before this instance. Nothing lead him to abuse those poor innocent animals except himself. Medeiros did not get away with what he did; his farm was taken, he might go to jail for life, and the abuse is on his permanent record.…

Imagine a young girl, sitting in her dinning room with her loving family. She is about to partake in her mother’s famous lasagna, when suddenly, huge creatures burst into the room and grab the little girl and her family. The leering eyed creatures stuff the innocent family into cages, too small for their bodies, and shove them into vans. As the girl’s last days roll by she watches both herself and her family being treated like “tens of millions of animals hidden in laboratories on college campuses and research facilities being dissected, infected, injected, gassed, burned and blinded.” (“The truth about…

The excerpt above is from The Nazi Doctors and the Nuremburg Code a book recording the unimaginable horrors as millions of innocent men, women, and children were used for clinical research. They were treated worse than animals and the book shows how their sacrifices ultimately changed the course of history. Today’s research ethics are, in essence, ways to ensure vulnerable subjects are protected from exploitation and other forms of harm like the gruesome medical experiments conducted by Nazi doctors during World War II. Shortly after the conclusion of WW II an international trial of war criminals began in Germany known now as the Nuremburg Trials. These preceding’s included the “Doctor’s Trial” from December 1946 to August 1947 in which twenty-three defendants were accused of crimes against humanity, focusing on medical experiments done to prisoners of war (Staff). A prime example, was the starvation of the mentally and physically handicapped, coined as “useless eaters,” it became official policy of the state after the prolonged exposure to Nazi hate campaigns against the mentally and physically…
