How is Jim’s self-concept affecting the interaction? Is it helping it? Hindering it? Explain using concepts for the text. I believe that by thinking he is an average student he isn’t living up to the expectation his parents. I also believe that it isn’t helping him it is only making it worse for him. Jim’s subconscious mind is making hard for him to prove himself to his parent. The most dangerous thing about having a distorted self-concept is that your subconscious mind always works to prove your self- concept true.
Using the process of human perception starting on page 64, explain the situation from your perspective as a student. Jim is a student who is trying to his best in school but no matter how good he does he doesn’t live up to his parents expectation. He is trying to please his parents but feels it is hard to live up to his father expectations because his father is brilliant compared to his self- concept of himself. Jim self-concept is that he is a average student and will not do as good as his parents want him to do. From what I can see is Jim’s subconscious mind is playing a big role in the situation and making it impossible for him to improve.
Using the guidelines for improving perception and communication starting on page 79 of the text, provide at least two tips for both Jim and his father on how to handle the situation in an effective way. Make sure to incorporate the text guidelines with proper in-text citations to support your points.
I believe a good tip for both Jim and his father would by Recognizing that all perceptions are partial subjective. I think it would be wise for Jim and his father to see that they could be subjectively viewing the situation by Jim’s father assuming he is partying with his friend
