Assessment task and learning outcome 1: Assessment criteria 1.1
There are three legal requirements in general welfare and guidance. Within these three general legal requirements there are specific legal requirements.
The first general legal requirement is:-
1. The provider must take necessary steps to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.
Within this general legal requirement there are five specific legal requirements which are:-
Safeguarding. Safeguarding means that the provider must keep the premises and equipment clean. Also the provider must implement a health and safety policy. The provider must also take reasonable steps to ensure the children are safe.
Premises and security. The premises and equipment must be organised that meets the needs of the children. In registered settings, providers must meet the following space requirements: children under 2 years: 3.5m2 per child
2 year olds: 2.5 m2 per child
children aged 3 to 5 years: 2.3 m2 per child
Outings. Whilst the children are on outings they must be kept safe and also they must have the parent’s permission before allowing them to come. Providers must also take risk assessments and also have a set route. There must include an adult to child ration and the driver must be adequately insured.
Equality or opportunities. Providers must have a policy and procedure. Equal opportunities for children should be met including support for children with specific educational needs (SEN person) or disabilities.
Information and complaints.
Complaints: - providers must put in place a written procedure for dealing with any concerns or complaints form parents or careers and must keep a record of it with its outcome. Child minders are not required to have a written procedure.
